Welcome! Fitness is a lifelong journey to me. So I try to recommit myself to these things every day. And when I slip up, I just jump right back on the wagon and get back to business:
Always have a workout plan. When you go to the gym, know exactly what you want to do. "Today is back, biceps and cardio." Otherwise, you'll aimlessly wander and leave feeling like you did nothing at all.
Be prepared with healthy food choices. If you need to snack, have healthy options available, like fruit, nuts, hard boiled eggs, beef jerky, etc. Prepare food ahead of time when necessary. Try eating many smaller meals throughout the day, rather than the typical three. You will be able to stave off starvation and be less likely to overeat.
Get an mp3 player for when you workout. This keeps me focused and not distracted by other people. Besides, I love music!
Don't think that the scale is always right. It's only a number! Take measurements and notice how your clothes are fitting. Those will give you better examples if you are heading in the right direction.
Good luck! There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man. The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.

Hey GB,
Welcome! I'm curious if you're interested in fitness and working out, or actually BodyBuilding where you would compete on stage in one of those ity-bity bikinis? Either way you're in the right place.
As for your question, gosh... it's the 1-million dollar answer that many books, videos, and informercials have been made to help with, and to be honest none of them really help in the long run.
However, if there is one thing that stands above all the rest, above the diet, exercise, early mornings, late evenings, going when you want to, and really going when you don't is one simple element. You empowered yourself to make a decision in your life for your health, your happiness and your well being. And that is the most important step anyone can take in fitness, motivation and goal setting.
Keep up with the questions and I'm sure you will find the answers here and other places the site. Best of luck!
Aloha,

The best way I have found to stay motivated is to workout with a training partner. You are going to have good days and bad days and the right partner can motivate you on your bad days. Having a partner allows you to push yourself more by having someone there to spot you .
I thought I was strong till I watched my wife fight through GBS.I could only dream to have as much strength and will power as her!

Hello there
well many things can keep you motivated probably the progress you make and people comments on your new look , shape .. the mirror always keep me motivated sounds silly but now i like the dude picture in the mirror .. youtube videos .. songs .. love .. the goal you set in your mind
and this
"The body will do what the mind tells it to do"
"we eat to live .. not live to eat"
both by Arnold

Welcome!
I find the best way to stay motivated is to reflect of where I want to be, and where I have come from. Write down your values and post them on your wall (your "ethos"). Most importantly, once you get on board, stay with it, even if you falter a little bit.
Music also certainly helps, so a music player is a wise investment.
