Hi, I understand that grip and wrist and forearm strength is the most important thing but I'm having a hard time visualising why. Could you please provide any explanation or insight into how having stronger fingers is benefitial? And how they can be used? Especially as you mentioned earlier that not everyone squeezes hard (aka Japanese).
Thanks for any reply posted.

Squeezing someone's hand and having hand control are 2 different things. If I can control someone's hand in a match from my hand and wrist strength, I will control the whole match 9/10 times.
Finger strength can allow you to force a hook by applying lower finger pressure or stop a top roll by applying upper finger pressure.
No the Japanese don't set up with pressure but just do the opponent doesn't feel it, the Japanese guys still has tonnes of finger pressure applied nut not by squeezing my hand.

In the 9th grade I lost to all of my friends in arm wrestling (I am left handed and lost both hands usually). They would have conversations while arm wrestling me and even move roll my wrist around like a toy. I had enough over the summer I trained my grip with hand grips and was better than before, but I still lost to this 250 pound kid. I started working out, arm wrestling different people. I started getting stronger and now I can beat that fat kid, my teacher, and kids who curl more than me with my weak hand. I guess it all comes down to technique more than anything.
Also I noticed I do some of these techniques sub consciously. Good to know there is a method to my madness.
Oh and btw these are great tips XD

There are a couple ways
1. Option 1
Assume a basic armwrestling position
- drop your wrist downwards so the top part of your thumb is facing the ceiling not yourself
- apply pressure down on your elbow into the elbow pad
- apply pressure upwards from the thumb.
- apply a little side pressure from your wrist just below the thumb joint
- as he goes to hook, you will toproll form the lower part of your wrist
2. Option 2
Assume a basic armwrestling position
- keep your wrist riser in a neutral position, so not high and not low like the last option listed above
- apply lots of side pressure from the bottom of your palm where the wrist meets the palm.
- try not to squeeze with your fingers on the back of your opponents hand, instead, of pressure in your fingers and let them sit just above your opponents hand
Really hope this helpsUSPlabs Sponsored Athlete

Hello everyone.... I am 25 years old and have been arm wrestling for fun for years now and friends and family have always suggested that I enter a tournament. I know there is a difference between "for fun" and competing and I am not going in expecting to win but just learn and get a feel for it. I weigh 175lbs and I am pretty strong for my size and love competing so I figure this could be a new hobby/sport for me.
Problem is I can not find and info on where tournaments are held in my area or close enough to me to drive. I found this but cant find any more info the on the location for the nov 19th event.... http://www.worldofarmwrestling.com/i...k=view&id=7433
Also do you need anything besides ID when you show up for an amateur event? Thank you guys in advance
