Because when you look at the historical context of it, "short hair" is really just something that came out of Roman tradition and got spread around. You can make the point about short hair originating from the military - but it doesn't either. Not traditionally the U.S. or Western Europe prior to the 20th century at any rate.
Back a couple of hundred years ago guys with long hair and gigantic beards were everywhere, including in the American Civil War and so on. So why is it generally considered either "dirty" or "girly" in today's society?
I'd rather look like one of these guys any fucking day...
Than one of these guys....

You mean to say I'm not Arnold or Zakk Wylde? Really?
My point is that it's not an exception that guys look badass with long hair - it's a rule. As long as the guy himself is in good shape, and doesn't style his hair drastically, it'll almost always look more manly than short hair. Excluding things like afros, etc.
If a guy looks like a girl with long hair, odds are he'll look like a girl with short hair. It's not the hair that does it.

Well, that's all down to interpretation and opinions obviously. You could say that a guy with short hair is the same as a guy with shaved legs. I always link long hair with tough guy Viking-out-in-the-wilderness type stuff. Not with crossdressers.
And I associate guys with short ultra-styled hair with metrosexuals in Starbucks.
Hence more girly to me

Two of those pictures are of real people, you flaming dumbfuck. And they're not "ultra stylized" either. Well, Arnold's muscle proportions sure.
The fact is, I didn't post biased pictures. I posted pretty good pictures of guys with long hair and pretty good pictures of guys with short hair. I'll say it again, if a guy looks girly with long hair he will look girly with short hair.
