Bad stomach aches from Bananas?

Everytime I eat a banana I get a really bad stomach ache about 30 minutes after. It lasts for 45-60 minutes. I know how beneficial bananas are for diet and training so I don't want to cut them out completely. Lately i've been using 1/4 of a banana in a shake, and still get stomach aches but not as bad as a full banana would give me.

I'm 20 years old, and I used to be able to eat bananas without a problem up until I was about 16 or 17. So that makes me think i'm not allergic to them. But seriously WTF is up with this? Am i basically screwed and can't eat them anymore? Have you guys heard anything like this before?

I would make sure you're not allergic to them.


Bananas are great. Really calming in my stomach because once you chew them they are a big dense lump in the stomach. Very satisfyingly.

If I don't like something or it doesn't agree with me then I do not eat it. There are always substitues you can use to replace something. I would guess only your doctor could tell you exactly why it happens and more then likely tell you to not eat them if it is nothing beyond your system doesn't like bananas.

Just because some people claim something is great for you doesn't mean you have to eat it.

People swear by fish, chicken and lean red meat. Vegetarians eat none of them. I personally hate the taste of fish so I don't eat it. Just replace it with something else that fits the same nutrients and benifits you find in it.

I would also ask your doctor to make sure.

strange because bananas have a PH that is considered alkaline and are often used by people who have stomach issues (high acid).

I just posted up a thread about this a fear days ago. Every single time I eat one I get a stomach ache about 30 mins after. Weird I know. Our body just doesnt like them...But I love eatting them!!!!

Found a helpful article for you on banana allergies. Allergies can be developed over time so it's quite possible. Considering see your Dr and maybe getting a referral to an allergist. Hope you find out some more info!
