I like any music that gives me a boost, though I prefer classic rock.
Two songs in particular always give me that push through when I am tired, both are also what I would refer to as heavy blues, in their own unique form: Voodoo Child (slight return) by Jimi Hendrix, and When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin.
So many years after first hearing these songs and they still find their way on my "Workout Playlists". I could list a few others, but those two in particular are my staple songs. Highly recommend even if you don't listen to rock music.

I like the NHS Choices podcasts. I think they're called Couch to 5K, and then there's some other ones like 5K to 10K, and some for weightlifting also. In addition to supplying with music during the workout, there's a woman on there who tells you what exercises to do and when, and iirc you can choose either Australian or British accents or something. It's great. And she says stuff to get you to keep going at times. Helps with motivation to me.

I've been getting into a lot more metal lately. I first started listening to metal almost exclusively in 8th grade then took a really long break. First started listening to bands my parents liked. Mostly 80's bands like Ratt. Then got into bands like Pantera, Slayer, Metallica. I like all kinds of rock but I've found myself listening to a lot more metal and heavy rock as of now.
Check out Limp Bizkit live at Woodstock. **** gets me pretty pumped. Or Mayhem's Deathcrush.

Anything goes for cycling in the open air, including audiobooks. Almost nothing works for workouts.
I generally dislike rap music and like a completely different set of genres. However, all of the music I really like does not work for me at all during workouts, and that includes bands that are supposed to be good for physical activity. Assorted rock and metal in particular does not work at all, and just puts me into a dramatic mood, whereas I need a level head and a sense of rhythm. E.g., Stahlgewitter seems almost tailored for working out, but it is far too epic for me squeaking pathetically on my 6th negative chin-up in the 4th set. Synthpop is about equally useless. Other genres like neofolk or baroque aren't even remotely appropriate.
For the past two weeks, during all of my workouts, I was listening exclusively to two long rap albums: "Facção Central - Direto do Campo de Extermínio" and "Eduardo - A Fantástica Fábrica de Cadáver". I don't speak Portuguese, but I like that rap much better than any rap in English, except maybe some hip-hop stuff from the 80s. I especially appreciate faster or more rhythmic songs like "O Menino Do Morro" or "A mesa de autópsia". They just make me move automatically and put me into a busy mode, as it were.Last edited by OrangeKilomonth; 10-23-2017 at 11:12 AM.
