How do you know if you should take digestive enzymes or is something that everyone would "benefit" from taking? I tried to research the topic but didn't find just an overall explanation of them.

It's my understanding that digestive enzymes are used to help digest proteins as meat it typically difficult to digest. I knew what they were (as I work at GNC and we carry them there) so I recently started taking them a few weeks ago and I have noticed that I have less bloating and "intestinal distress".

I have been taking digestive enzymes for a while and they definitely seem to help with bloating... although simply cutting out gluten also helped me with bloating.
If it's to be it's up to me....

Yeah, I'm trying not to be someone who takes all these crazy supps because first of all I've been known to "forget"... I only take fish oil pills, multi-vitamin and protein shakes. I started wondering about enzymes after reading the post "stomach looking like I'm 5 months pregnant" over in the nutrition section haha. I can't really tell if I have a lot of bloating going on but sometimes I do experience what those girls were talking about in that thread. Also, I have no idea how to tell if I have any intolerances to gluten although my guess would be that I don't... but that's just a shot in the dark based on me not having any obscure things going besides a puffy tummy sometimes
So you take them BEFORE you eat? I guess it couldn't hurt to try. I'm just really proud of my new eating ways and I guess the big picture idea would be to get the most out of my good nutrition that I now have going on.

I started taking them about a month ago becuae I was having bloating issues and wasn't regular in the bathroom dept. So far, so good. Bloating is gone and i'm finally regular!

I was really irregular and looked into digestive enzymes, but instead I started Bromelin. it helps break down the protein so your body can absorb it better and make you more regular. It really helps, not with bloating, but defiantly with potty time! I think I am going to start some enzymes to help with bloating too.

i've suffered from really bad stomic problems for yrs from to much drug abuse in my early teens, i ust to just eat good oragnic yogurts & green tea(japanese gen mai cha), but since i found out i'm lactose intolarent, i've changed the yogurt 2 miso soup & so far it's worked a treat.
Te enzyme tablets hurt my stomic pretty badTHE JUICE IS WORTH THE SQUEEZE!!
I love supplements but my stomic seems to hate them, Always on the look out for the perfect set of products that will get me the results i want, without the pain i hate so much!!

experiencing bloat after eating can mean you have a food allergy/intolerance, low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria), bacteria overgrowth (SIBO), dysbiosis (unbalanced intestinal flora) or candida/yeast growth (candidiasis).
you'll most likely benefit from digestive enzymes, and a few other supps depending on what you may have.
bromelin is only one type of enzyme, used to digest protein. papaya is also used to help digest protein. a mixture of enzymes that help digest protein, fat and carbs is best. I recommend NOW brand Super Enzymes, they have worked the best for me, and i've tried a lot of brands.
You may also benefit from Betaine HCL, an acid derived from beets that is similiar to our own stomach acid. It helps breaks down the food into smaller particles.
You can take either of these 30 min before meals, or during the first bite. I haven't noticed a difference either way. They can be taken together also.

I actually JUST purchased NOW super digestive enzymes because I'm a terrible sufferer of poor digestion. Just wasn't sure, what is the best way to take 'em...right before a meal or during the meal? Or does it really matter? I would like the BEST benefit possible! haha! =)

I started NOW enzymes, a few weeks ago and they really have helped me. All the the added protein was making me feel really bloated and gassy ( very embarrassing ). I take one in morning before I leave for work then eat oatmeal when I get to work. Then take another late morning and again when I get home after work out but before dinner. I notice if a have too many protein shakes I still feel bloated so I recently ordered protein isolate which is suppose to help. I will definitely continue using digestive enzymes.

omg...totally me!! I was on the keto diet for about three months and once I went off it and added carbs and more protein to my diet, the bloating and gas was added as well. UGH!! I am hoping these pills work some magic!! sooo..it sounds like you take them before eating your meal, which is what I was thinking would be most beneficial!

Digestive enzymes are proteins that help break down food into smaller molecules so that your body can easily use the nutrients. They are produced in different parts of the digestive system, including the mouth, stomach, pancreas, and small intestine. These digestive enzymes are available in capsules form. You can get those digestive enzymes from online stores like Cureka.
Some people may benefit from taking digestive enzyme supplements, including:
People with digestive conditions such as:
Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).
Celiac disease.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Crohn's disease.
However, not everyone needs to take digestive enzyme capsules. If you are healthy and have a normal diet, you are likely getting enough enzymes from the foods you eat.
