I can tell you from personal experience don't buy her a vacuum cleaner. My wife likes jewlery watches etc. I have also bought her coach bags and designer suits.

The weekend away trip is cute...
Ok, so if it was me I would like a collection of little thoughtful things for to give on the day if it isn't at the same time as the weekend trip.
.. some nice underwear for the trip away
.. maybe a CD or DVD of a romantic film, opera or something..
.. I do like flowers but they are pricey...
.. a pretty necklace or piece of jewellry - no need for diamonds
.. I love going to the theatre (not sure where you live) so a meal and theatre visit is great.
.. you need to keep your ears open and listen for hints...
.. cook for her a favourite dish
