Tonight was a good night
tasty IPA, not the best in the world but i definitely enjoyed. grapefruit, orange, and pine as normal with an IPA. Good amount of bitterness, good balance.
very good DIPA. Was expecting to be blown away, but no. Weak aromas, good taste with grapefruit and orange flavor. Enjoyable stuff.
great Belgian style! lots of peach and apricot with spice. no bitterness. great balance, fantastic drinkability. Loved this
also had the best porter ever

Has anyone given Sam Adam's Deconstructed a try yet? I love the concept of breaking down beer to show off each kind of hop individually, but just wondering if it is worth the 17 bucks to buy it when it could go towards some other brews.

Made some labels today. Cheap as hell looking, but they get the job done. Computer paper and skim milk to stick them on. easy as hell
great stuff. Lots of grapefruit, orange, and wheat flavor with pine. Extremely drinkable and smooth body.
a great wit. lots of flavor with orange, lemon, honey, and spices. super smooth drinking with no alcohol presence.
HUGE dipa. Tons of mango, orange, grapefruit, and pine. great bitterness, yet really balanced as well. Fantastic.

Sam is priced as a premium brand, regardless of how "craft beer" they claim to be... It used to be the same price as B/M/C, but now it's at least a few dollars more per case. But that's how craft beers are priced now, at least around here. Harpoon, Sam Adams, Magic Hat, Long Trail, etc..all good beers, all priced at about $16 per 12 pack. Unless you go to a bulk store, for the lousy $2 savings, which most people don't.
Besides, being a home brewer takes the cost down a bit, even after buying ingredients. There's never a charge for me to walk in my kitchen and draw a glass from my kegerator...
I'm not sure why, but I love Utopias...but yes, it is ridiculously expensive. I've seen it go as high as $400 on Ebay a few years ago. I usually get mine for about $120, if I can find it. From what I've heard, the original supply brewed many years, and used as a blender is running out within a few years. So by 2014, it may be gone, or changed from the original batch from the 90's. That would explain the rising prices over the last couple of releases.
Yeah it does... Although, this realistically means nothing for the war on terror; if anything it adds fuel to the fire. The "burial-at-sea" wasn't a good idea IMO. It's not according to Islamic tradition, which would mean we mistreated the body...regardless of what we think of him, Al-Qaida, or anyone else. This is just going to piss off a lot of people worldwide. They should have given the body to Saudi Arabia and let them deal with it. That way, we can say we did the right thing according to their traditions.
I'm not saying I agree with I just said, but I understand......i remain, he who remains to be...

Speaking of Utopias, I picked up one in my area 3 weeks ago. Spent $200.
To some people that sounds absurd but for myself I bought it more or less as a nostalgic item. Short story: When I first begun to get into the craft beer scene several years ago the instant I saw and heard of Utopias it was an instant attraction. The idea that a beer could be brewed to that gravity, the rarity, bottle, and hype around it all really captured my interest. At that time it was unheard of to ever see a bottle in my smallish town of Chattanooga and I swore to myself and then upcoming craft beer friends that I'd purchase one if I ever saw it available.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. Sam Adams in the craft scene now is seen as a gateway beer to the bigger and better micros (although I love fresh Noble Pils) but the initial attraction of Utopias still has a special place. While checking out at my local store I saw the familiar shaped bottle that I used to google all the time in a locked glass case. Instantly I told the clerk that I wanted it, didn't even ask the price and knew it would be marked up - didn't care. So happy to actually have it in my hands despite the heft price tag, totally worth it. Granted I won't drink it for many many years, might save it for the birth of a child or something special but just having it is all the pleasure.
So yes it is marked up and hyped and all but I think in this case beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this guy is quite happy with this personal whale
I would like to hear some stories of your personal whale finds. Doesn't have to be a KtG or anything, love hearing good brew stories!

Drink some of it now brother..enjoy it. You paid good money for it..besides, being in Boston I've been to the original R&D brewhouse where they make the Utopias many times. They say to open it occasionally is good thing, allowing it to breathe. The air will make it deeper in flavor, and less harsh from the higher alcohol%.
I currently have 4, maybe 5 on the shelf. Oldest is 2005 I think, maybe 2003. I'm going to open that one this weekend maybe. Remember, a drink is a just a 1 ounce serving, sipped slowly. You have 750ml in that vessel, which gives you just over 25 shots.. So you could even double your serving, and still get 12-14 glasses out of it.
Edit: What year is it, and vessel number?...i remain, he who remains to be...

Good to hear, thanks for the information friend! I'll have to pick an occasion to crack it open and enjoy. It's the just released 2011 so needless to say I plan to put many years of age on it. Now that you mention the need for oxygen every now and then, maybe I'll plan on trying this twice a year and note how it develops overtime. Should be around a decade beer if I start and keep with this trend till finish.
Cheers!

Had this the other night and it was awesome. I really enjoyed it! To me it tasted like a hopped up Marzen. Big huge caramal and vanilla maltiness and bready flavor with a nice hop balance. Mouthfeel was very thick. Will def. buy and drink again. This is Lagunitas best brew by far!

Yeah, his death by now is mostly symbolic. Don't get me wrong, the world is better without him, still, here's a somewhat disheartening look at a numerical breakdown of what it took to get bin Laden: http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/05/...den-hunt-stats

Dick's Brewing Company Imperial IPA
Had the new Dick's Imperial IPA. Another in the series of imperial ales that Dick himself devised before his untimely death. This is a perfectly balanced brew. Incredible aroma that teeters between citrus and pine just right, a great body and thickness to it but not too sweet as some imperial IPAs can get. A profound bitterness crawls up on you after the swallow. Overall, a great brew, a great example of the style, and perfectly priced at $5.49.
Would drink again.
