Arnold was also 240lbs at 6'2, branch warren is 245lbs at 5'7 and twice the conditioning arnold ever had.
Gunter was hitting 300lbs onstage with striated glutes and he is 6'1-2. Adding 60+lbs of mass onto a frame will has reprecussions everywhere, including the gut area.
Phil Heath is sporting an impressive gut now days, look at him posing at the 2008 ironman, he holds it well in his poses but when he transitions its clearly there, back in arnolds day Phil would have been like 190lbs maybe 200, not pushing 235 onstage

I believe he was talking about when he was posing...
Chill out, relax, no need to assume weird things and tear into rage mode every time someone mentions the word 'gut' bro. Here is a pic from the vid he was referring to.
Your assessment that this makes him a moron for calling it a gut and disturbing makes no sense. Calling people morons for perfectly accurate statements when you're responding with senseless, poorly thought out irrelevancies and rage isn't the best way to go about a stress free life brah.
On another note, the guy has a very impressive physique, but yes his gut is particularly unpleasant, at a degree that everyone most certainly does not have.
Lol, no.
It's an assessment of an aspect of said physique and it's effect on the viewer. In fact you made some identically motivated comments about his proportions and conditioning.Last edited by Duckenheimer; 04-01-2009 at 10:56 AM.

Well Phil heaves out a little here and there in transitions, but it's close to imperceptible. Maybe once or twice EVER I've seen a picture of Phil looking like he had a dodgy waist.
Aesthetically, Phil is close to faultless, and his whole package virtually always looks great.Interested in investing in militarizing poultry? Based in our Southernmost continent, no local taxes, no laws to worry about, guaranteed return! PM for further details

Arnold would have to put on another 30lbs. to compete today. When considering how weak his legs are compared to today's bodybuilders he might even need more muscle than 30lbs. Add the fact that more stress would be placed on his midsection from harder leg training plus eating more meals and his stomach would not be the same size. Even without insulin or HGH his ab wall would still be bigger. It wouldn't be as big as some pros, but it would be thicker.

the gut trade-off is a matter of opinion and there's nothing wrong with that. some people wouldnt mind if there was a new drug that also caused the bodybuilder's skull to grow vertically if it enhanced musculature, yet many would prefer "old-school mass-monsters" to the new "conehead era"

speaking hypothetically about aesthetics. if a new drug caused the skull to grow three feet tall, most people would go "WTF THAT IS NOT COOL" and then there would be others who go "cone heads are the new reality of bodybuilding, you cant go onstage at 400 pounds lean without a little bit of cranial extension"
and people would be like "uh ohhhh heath's head is getting pointy" and people would be like ITS MIDPOSEExcuse me, your seatbelt seems to be broken. What do you recommend I do?

Uh oh, THE RETARDED CRANIAL COMMIES are out in full force again.
You think everyone walks around with a perfect head all their life? Obviously you do. Well believe it or not, nobody has a perfect looking head 24/7.

I'm not talking about the guy in the video. I'm saying newbs don't realize that even without drugs your waist will get a bit thicker if you get bigger. I guess your waist stayed the same size while bulking to get to 149lb. When you're that small don't tell me that hard training won't thicken your waist.
