okay, rolled today for the first time since before christmas. no gi.
was pretty cool. we started off with some basic self-defense type stuff, drilled some kimura escapes, leading to wristlock, kimura and armbar...was difficult keeping up, especially on my weak side...but it was cool. we free-sparred for about 40 minutes, and in the first roll, i managed to tap my partner out with an anaconda roll (was very iffy, wasnt a "proper" one, but it was close enough, and he tapped!)
pretty much got pwned in every other round, although defended pretty well, and tried for quite adventurous moves (for me at least!), like a failed triangle, a failed gogoplata (is that the one with the ankle over the neck? if so, thats the one i tried), tried a front roll to knee-bar and got RNC'd lol!
aside from that, in 40 minutes of rolliong, i only tapped three times, once to my first partner, and twice to a purple belter who also does no gi.
im quite proud, but damn if im not sore as hell.
oh, hi by the way.dont be bitchin about somebody not being a mexican while ignoring someone who isnt irish.

yeah, i pretty much gathered. some of the stuff i tried, i havent even been taught, it just stuff ive read in magazines. the anaconda roll i saw in an edition of Fightsport magazine; it was an article with fedor and couture showing how to do certain moves. ive never been taught to do a gogoplata or an omoplata or stuff like that, but ive seen aoki and peeps like that do it, so i thought "frig it, im gonna get tapped eventually, i might as well throw them a curveball and hope for the best!"
probably not the best thing to do, i know, but man, feels gooooood.dont be bitchin about somebody not being a mexican while ignoring someone who isnt irish.

In July of '07, the owner of my academy and I began a search for the new location for our flagship Philadelphia academy. I cannot even begin to describe how many obstacles and near-misses we had (we basically were about to close on two previous places but something came up last minute and the owners bailed). It has been such a ridiculously difficult and stressful experience because our lease is up May 1st here at the current location.
Today, FINALLY, we signed and executed a lease for a new 6,000 sq ft amazing facility about 5 blocks from our current one. There is an additional 2,000 sq ft available on the same floor that we will eventually take over as well.
This will likely be the nicest MMA facility in Philadelphia. It's gonna be so SICK! We'll probably have our grand opening in August sometime when all the improvements are completed. I am very excited and so effing relieved that the search is over.
Gonna be a fun month... pro MMA debut and new academy. I'm gonna be so damn busy but it's a good kind of busy, ya know?
