my dad is a commercial/business litigation lawyer and he says that as the economy gets worse I just make more money. I realize you will be in debt after law school but being a lawyer in general is like a license to print money. the people who work there asses off for 100k at firms are not the people making the money. Its the people who work at the top or are working individually who are making the real money. I dunno about you guys but ive never heard my dad whining about making 495 an hour.

Yeah. we had an admissions counselor come in to field questions at an event I was at. Some kid asked him a sort of self congratulatory question regarding gpa vs. difficulty of major, essentially answering his own question by assuming that schools will account for your major when coming across sub par GPA's.
Counselor basically laffed at the dude, said not at all, if you have the exact same stats as someone else and it's one of the two of you then yes, but they will take a 3.3 with a general studies major over a 3.2 physics major. Stats are everything.

First, most law schools evaluate LSAT score higher than GPA. I know from experience. At 161, you should get into to better than a third tier.
Secondly, I have to friends who both practiced law for a couple of years and then went into other fields. One went to work at an investment bank the other started his own business. The guy at the bank got fired and the other guy's business went under, all due to the current economic downturn.
BOTH have already gotten new jobs at law firms. Do not underestimate where the law degree can come in handy. A lot of people are unemployed, these two with their JDs got new jobs immediately (one at $200K actually).
