I was diagnosed with severe mercury poisoning back in december.. i was eating about 2 cans of light tuna a day as well as salmon, sardines, etc... at one point i was eating about 6 cans of tuna a day! (excessive i know) this had been going on for around 6 years.. but anyways, yes, mercury poisoning is real! in my case, i am still recovering as the half life is 70 days and the only way to get it out of your system is to wait it out!..
Tuna is usualy ful of mercury and pesticides and everything that is in the sea. Since all of this is absorbed in the fatty tissue it is reasonable to limit tuna intake. I wouldn't know how much, but tiggy22 obviesly was eating too much tuna. Tuna is a big fish and spends a lot of its life in the sea where ghas time to absorb mercury and pesticides. It is better to focus on smaller fish like sardine, anchovies etc.
