I'm thinking of giving one of these uber high reps (100) leg press routines a try. I have some ROM issues with this lift that make utilzing a heavy load difficult & very uncomfortable. There appear to be a number of variants of this. Some utilize one load with no breaks (the legs are constantly engaged, even between sets), others use only enough break time to either remove or add plates & get back at it.
Has anyone done/does these, and if so what protocol do/did you use? And how did you determine the load for that 1st time?

don't do a century, but i do high rep leg press to conclude my leg workout. just so maybe you can gauge, my last workout was:
squats 255lbs 5 x 5, one set of 20 rep squats 185, then i did one set of leg press, 205 lbs x 35 reps.
i have been advised my many that it is pointless, although they never have an articulated reason. but i know what i feel and the results. it is brutal and effective. i've seen wonderful progress on the leg program i've been doing.
i've thought about reducing the weight and going more reps, but haven't done it.
are you thinking of doing a century as your leg routine? or just part of it?

My trainer had me do this once. A different exercise for a different part of the body. When I started the first set I remember thinking "This is so light. This is a joke."
When I got to the 100th rep I was crying for momma. There will come a day when I tire of listening to 80's music. That day is not today.

For a while, my legs day workout started with heavy, low-rep squats and then moved on to high-rep leg press. I'd shoot for 100 reps however I could get them. I started by doing four sets of 25, but eventually did 50, 30, and 20.
Honestly, you have to be pretty whacked in the head to do high-rep leg presses. There were days when I'd approach the infernal machine like a man condemed to die, only to find myself grinning with joy somewhere around the 40th rep. Eventually, the leg press would seem like a trap that I was stuck in and couldn't escape. Don't ask me to explain it.
As for results, I got some great pumps (see avatar) and mind-boggling DOMS that lasted an entire week. I took no measurements, but I'm pretty sure I gained some size based on the fit of my jeans.

Here's what I see written in my journal:
BB Back Squat: 45x8 135x5,5 225x3 245x2 265x5,5,6
Leg Press: 180x50,30,20
Then later...
BB Back Squat: 45x10,10 135x5 185x5 225x3 275x1 290x5,5,6
Leg Press: 270x25,25,25,25
Amusing you say? It's about as amusing as those timed sets of squats we were messing around with last year. Remember those?

Reps may be the answer.....
There must be a way to bust thru the leg muscle facia. I sware mine is thicker than my skull (and that according to Lady Wonkanobi is THICK). 25 years ago I got my Gweneth Paltrow legs up fairly decent while heavily 'assisted' and doing 405 squats for reps. I don't have a good pic to show that as I am not a pic person. However, I do have a pic of me as a much smaller natural, age 53. Attached.
Lately I have been steadily increasing my poundages on the press up to 16 plates for 6. That is not increasing leg size at all. My facia say NO MORE. So I upped the reps this morning to 20 per set, 2,4,6,8,10 plates for 20 reps each. On the last set I had an out of body experience and saw George Carlin standing there at my side making rude remarks at the old bald man on the leg press. 100 reps...6 plates maybe. What if I stay with the 10 plate bench mark and increase reps 20-25-30 etc. every week until I crash?? Interesting.
Perhaps reps will stretch my freakin facia. IF I can get back to my 53* condition plus a few pounds of muscle I should have no problem at the Over 70 Nationals.

OMG that was 17 years ago.

I do these every couple months just to throw a little curve ball in there. Since the Leg Press was taken up for this workout I ended up doing this on the Hack Squat machine.
Hack squats
540 for 10
450 for 15
360 for 25
270 for 50 (I think I saw god around rep 30)
180 for 100 (Don't remember anything once I got to rep 70 or so)Instagram @captloufitness

Are you talking 100 reps at once or multiple sets to equal 100 reps?
Yes.
I aimed for 100 reps/set.
When it became obvious I was not going to reach 100 reps I divided it up into 3 sets, 40 reps, 30, and 30 (you can go heavier this way too).
Chuck on a few plates/side and give it a try. The key here is not to quit when you feel like quitting, stop when the reps are done.
Its a whole new world of pain.
Keep rest time to a minimum, 30 sec should do it.

Those timed sets of Squats were moderately interesting, but I actually didn't see any benefit from them...in fact, I would say the inverse. I'm willing to try this out though...I mean, what could go wrong, right?
I'll see how 180 goes and maybe kick to 270 and see what's what...Ongoing Journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=106420991

Last year, all of the Gold's Gyms had a competition comprising 6 events. I only entered the leg press competition, and won my club;s championship. The format:
** You leg pressed your body weight
** You did not stop - at all.
** You were allowed one 3-second break - if you stopped for more than 3 seconds, you were done
(I did 170 ... the person who came second was an under-40-year-old, who did 105)Regards,
Duncan
