I start at 45 (pin #5) and do 3 sets of 5 on each pin until I hit flat ... I just like volume .. lots and lots of volume. Don't think there is an optimal though

The 'right' bench angle will be whatever causes the trainee to feel the work exactly where he wants it to hit him. It may be just a few degrees above flat or it might be as steep as 60-70 degrees.
