    Smile Your Weight Lifting Clothing?

    I'm a runner/jogger and am relatively skinny at 5ft6in, 135lbs.

I'd like to focus on the other side of the gym and lift weights. First thing on my list is to purchase a new pair of shoes, as I've discovered running shoes don't offer the same balance needed for when lifting weights.

As for clothing, I've been eying Under Armour. Specifically HeatGear training shorts to keep cool and short sleeve HeatGear training shirt. I tried both today and the shorts feel great, bit loose and nice & cool. As for the shirt, it fits great, kinda tight, very form fitting. On that, I'm wondering if people just wear the shirt by itself. I mention I'm skinny but I'm not toned. At least don't think enough to just wear that tight under armour training short alone.

Nevertheless that's just me focusing on under armour. I'm wondering what you, weight trainers wear at the gym when lifting weights and why you do so. What benefits your clothing offers you.

I'm all ears, as I'm just starting out lifting weights. Thanks.

A loose fitting breathable t-shirt, Some Gym shorts, A good pair of shoes that are snug around the ankle, and if it's leg day I will put compression shorts on under my gym shorts, I think it helps to keep my legs warm and I've noticed I don't wear down or cramp* as easily.

    Thumbs up

I usually wear some sort of baggy clothing, especially if it's a mostly upper body workout, i.e. baggy shorts or sweats and a huge t-shirt or long sleeved shirt. On days when I do squats, I wear some comfortable shorts and t shirt.

One thing that I do that gets on people's nerves is that I train bare-footed when I do any sort of leg work or "on my feet" moves. If anything at all, I'll wear crocs.

Basically, that's it, I'm really not into the whole looking good while I workout mentality, although I do enjoy looking at some of the ladies who choose to look good.
RAW PRs--no suit, no belt, no wraps, no spotters

    Squat- 1075 lbs
    Deadlift- 1250 lbs
    Bench- 795 lbs
    Power Clean- 665 lbs.
    Barbell Curl-405 lbs.

225 Bench Press for reps-56 reps
40 yard dash-4.13 seconds (electronic official time)

I kinda think your overthinking this. Your not going to the gym for a fashion show your going to get bigger, stronger, toned ect...... just throw on some mesh shorts and a t shirt and lift. Also your shoes arent going to make a difference. I see people who lift in work boots all the time. just don't be wear flip flops or sandals lol...

Shoes are important, but as far as shorts and shirt go, that's really up to you. Although, I've ripped more than one pair of pants during squatting, so you probably want to have very big or very stretchy pants

I wear the same clothes for running and working out.

Shiny shorts from walmart and tee shirt from walmart as well.

Chucks for lifting, running shoes for running.

    Less fashion, more training.

Is it going to stop you from lifting if you dont have all this under armor. Save your money that stuff is expensive.
All you need is a t-shirt and some loose fitting shorts. Shoe's can make a difference but if your just a beginner your probably not going to be throwing around weight that will. Just get some inserts for your cross trainers or running shoes. The only thing that i personally wear that i need is a sweat band. It helps keep the sweat out omy eyes and i put them around my ears to keep my head phone from falling out.

Don't be the guy that wears skin tight underarmor shirts. That's a serious eye sore.

Hey, I like my UnderArmours! At least when my gut's under control ;-)

I'm usually in a tank with either shorts or gym pants. I prefer tanks since they give me better freedom of movement. However, in the winter, doing my first few sets with long sleeves on seems to be friendlier on my joints. When I start getting too hot, I'll strip down to the tank.
    Keep on hulkin'.

I won't quit till no shirt will fit.

My one-sy feet-y pajamas with splinter from the ninja turtles on the front.

Go in whatever. No need for fancy attire. Shorts and a tee.
