I completely agree. Nothing wrong with not competing, but in my opinion unless you COMPETE in the SPORT of powerlifting, you can't call yourself a powerlifter.

I understand the legitamacy aspect that many people have touched on. Having proof of your lifts is good but the price is sure high. And this whole athlete distinction his worthless, imo, its just arguing semantics.

No offense, but I hardly believe you can bench-press 355 raw, or squat 612 going all the way down. I personally do not take anyone's results seriously until 1) I see them perform; 2) I know they did a powerlifting meet; 3) I see video of lift

You have a huge ego for someone who has not competed yet. You e-stats are impressive, but they are e-stats.

You compete because you want everyone to know how badass and strong you are. Why don't you just wear a t-shirt that says how much you can bench, deadlift, and squat? Real athletes compete because they want to improve their results/beat their opponents.

Coordinated? WTF? Are you nuts? POWERlifting. Power = explosiveness. If you'd been at real powerlifting meet, you'd see how fast some people can squat 600 lb. As far as coordination, if you squat 612lb, you should know better than me that coordination is a big part of powerlifting. How many average people can take few steps back/forward with 500lb barbell on their shoulders?
And as far as athletes, you are so dumb. Have you seen powerlifters in 181 and 198lb weight categories? They are ripped as hell, they cannot afford having fat.

Khalikov, I really don't see how I come off as having a huge ego. I have never claimed a 612 squat, that is my deadlift. I don't care that you don't believe my lifts but my bench? I have seen many people bench more than me honestly and I feel it is my weakest lift.

No. No, sickonstorm doesn't compete. Yes, I know he has a so-called "opinion" on competitors, but that's because he's a complete retard rather than because of any real life experience in the sport.

But mostly I just compete because I'm not anything special and if I do it might upset sickonstorm (since there's no point in me doing it).

There's nothing else like it. After my first competition i couldn't wait for the next one to test myself and now that im 8 months out from the next competition its all i think about in the gym. It drives me to push hard and to just fukin finish the set because i have to or else i fail myself.

i do this with a very angry attitude for some reason when i think about it and it gets my blood racing i cant explain but w/e

i do it because its great.

there's no feeling like training for several month then demonstrating it all in a matter of seconds

kinda like a soldier you train train train and train more do drills train more do more drill until one day you are let out of the cage and your skills are put to tested.

You have a huge ego for someone who has not competed yet. You e-stats are impressive, but they are e-stats.

Hahaha, omfg, wow. So all kids who have GPA < 2.5 should drop high school and college? All benchwarmers, 3rd string quarterbacks should just quit? Your ego is way up there.

They are ripped as hell, they cannot afford having fat.
what does being ripped have to do with athletiscim. it has nothing to do with it..... anyway. competeing isnt really good for stregth gains. a workout missed and spent peaking isnt going to help you in the gym js. also i never said i could squat 600 pounds ha.

Competing forces you to do things that you would otherwise not. While there is no direct physiological adaptation, the discipline that is required to compete is applicable in other areas. Lifting in the same gym, day after day, gives you the 'home field advantage', for lack of a better way to put it. However, it takes far more to travel, make weight, and deal with the crap involved in competing. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

You improve more than you would think. Goals are extremly important...and when you compete, those goals get 1000000 times more serious, and acted upon.

Do you want to be the guy at the party saying he benched 500...with no proof?
    I know I dont
I actually carry around a DVD of videos of all my PRs (even curls) in case this ever comes into question.
    Goals:

    Bench 315
    Squat 405

@185 or less. I want to dunk.

Wrong. Competing tests your real strength. Those 1-rep max calculators are total bs, and attempts in gym aren't the same either. In competition lifters have 3 - 5 big spotters. There is no fear of dropping barbell/fainting/failing because those big guys will spot.
Or in other words, what's the point of constant working-out when you never know your real limits?
