    i bench 315 for 13 and 345 for 9 and can only max at 415, no way in HELL this guy reps 315 for a somewhat difficult 9 and does 585

    He certianly has some strength and i would venture he could bench 400 but juding by the amount of help his spotter gives him he is nowhere near 585

    First off, nice strength. You've got some real power and good mass.

    Unfortunately it's not a nice lift. Coming from a weak kid like me it doesnt mean much, obviously.

    You've probably got a legit bench of 415-450 somewhere, which means you're stronger than probably 95%+ of people. Work on your form a bit and don't go too crazy on these kind of lifts.

    I reckon you're getting more strength gains than these naysayers would think from it though. Ego isnt too important really, lift for yourself and drop the weight/up the form.

    What you are watching here is called a "face dump." When a lifter is using a bench press shirt and loses the groove, the bar can come back and up towards the face as he pushes it.

    A spotter has to keep his hands very close to the bar and be ready for this. I've lost control of the bar like this and had it heading straight toward my face. Your spotter has to be ready to come in on a split second. Thankfully he was

    With the type of lift you are doing, you need the spotter there to help you if you get stuck. If he helps you - even a little bit - the lift will not be recognized. Anyone watching your video will see the spotter touching the bar and tell you that you received help. You may think, "oh, he only gave me 5 lbs of help," but that is not evident to the viewers.

    Tell your spotter not to touch the bar unless it starts to move backwards. We are telling you to start at 405 lbs for a reason. If today you hit 405 easy, great. Next time try 415. If you start low, you can work up without help. If you start way too high - as you obviously did with 585 - you will need help, and therefore your lift is not a lift that you did yourself.

    The title of your post makes us think you want help on how to get your bench up. Many people have given you good advice, take it or leave it. I'd rather see a 405 bench with perfect, clean form with no spotter touching the bar than a half assed bounced off the chest, butt a mile high off the bench, spotter lifting a lot of the weight lift like this one.

    The problem is that some lifters have posted fake workouts on the youtube site. Some people might think your lift is real. The lift looks real to me because I can see the bar bending. If you really want to prove it, just go to a bench press competition. Link for Bp meets in the New York area:

    Also, it was brought up that you bench press 315 x 9. Well, this doesn't make your lift look real because you should be able to do at least an easy 25 reps. I can do 315 for 16 and will never bench press an unequipped 585!

    On top of this, there's a picture in his bodyspace of him incline dumbbell pressing the 85lbs DBs, with the caption "wish I could go higher". Do you actually think a 585lbs bench presser would have trouble "going higher" than 85lbs DBs? I can certainly do more than that and I can't press 585lbs, spotter or not.

    I dunno why so much hate here - it looks like the guys is strong , not 585 strong , but probably good for well over 400. - Those hex plates - many gyms have them , and they suck, but they are legit 45 lbs.

    Everytime I see the video I cringe. Not at the bounce off the chest or blatant spotter help, I've seen a lot worse, but you really have no control over that bar and I can really see you getting hurt badly.

    If you look at the end of the first rep before you bring the bar back down it rows aways from the spotter as your triceps really start kicking in and taking over more of the lift. With out proper control of that bar you could easily get the bar in a position where the spotter has no leverage and ability to help you to keep it going and getting it up. Especially with the way the spotter was helping he really has no chance of helping once you lose total control of the bar. There's no way he's going to curl that bar up in the position he is in. He needs to be up higher and take a grip like he's going to deadlift it up.
