Looks like Blowflex got an upgrade, they changed how the weights are selected and added bluetooth technology to track weight and reps.
Interesting changes, but still looks like a big hunk of sh*t.

Recently purchased a brand new bowflex (cheap model pr1000) from Amazon. I created a thread to share my journey. Im not here to debate iron vs bowflex. Or argue with people not liking bowflex. Simply thought I would share my journey.
Being new on this forum I can't post pictures yet or post the link to my new thread. But I posted it in workout forum along with my introduction.
As soon as I have the required number of posts I will surely post photos of my progress.
Thanks for having me and wish me luck

Bowflex came out with the $2000 (with shipping) HVT. Hybrid Velocity Trainer. They don't really say how it works other than it has 16 levels of resistance.
Here's the kicker: "Provides 5X more muscle activation than traditional strength training"
Must be awesome, I mean I don't know why they would even bother still selling their old contraptions. They even back it with their money back guarantee so there's no risk other than the $400 worth of shipping and handling.

Seriously though, gimmick or not, it does look kinda fun.

"Source: 2016 University Study"
I know it's bunk, but I'm curious how they arrive at "5X". That's a lot. My guess is they compare it to 18 minutes of a 5x5 program.
"In about 18 minutes, the Bowflex HVT machine could deliver the calorie burn of running 1.5 miles"
Could being the key word. That would be a 12 minute per mile pace, if you could call that running. An incredible 150 calories or so, those muffin tops don't stand a chance! Because Hybrid Velocity!

All of their products cite indepenent University studies but offer no link or data outside of a claim that it burns X more calories than steady state exercise.....
After a few minutes of searching, I'm pretty confident that this study is not available and 'University' may imply a lot. Perhaps they had a student at McDonalds University management trainer create this study. Certainly not peer reviewed or loaded with all of that scientific hooey. They should be fined a great deal for citing 'sources' but not releasing any detail. Carnival barkers of the worst degree.
And....just because I'm not focused on work and have issues; I figured I'd ask Bowflex cs about it. Although the person in chat was polite it just shows there is absolutely no study or data out there. It's disgusting they can make claims like this, charge people an arm and a leg and have no repercussions.

Agree, my first thought when I saw their source was something like Hamburger University, perhaps "Nautilus University". I am a bit surprised they can make that claim without backing it up. That doesn't sound legal to me, and at the very least it's shady as hell.
On a side note, I see Nautilus bought Octane Fitness too. That's really disappointing, Octane was innovative now I'm sure they will turn into gimmicky junk. No wonder they haven't managed to deliver the Android app they promised for my Zero Runner.

Supplement companies do the same thing all the time, outrageous claims back by bullchit studies done in someone's garage. "Try our new God of Spartan krakan extreme v6 in delicious mongolian chocolate truffle unicorn rainbow candy, it will boost your gainz by 349% enabling you to activate level 10 Jedi power."

I don't get how they get away with making the claims that they do. However, if somebody actively uses one and works out, I guess it's better than sitting on your ass.

I've read some of the comments on here about Bowflex, not all.
I'm 36 and I lift on and off at the gym. My home does not have space for free weights (two stories five bedrooms but still no place to put them and I wouldn't want to put them in the backyard). What other home equipment all in one is there out there that would be better than Bowflex? I'm looking for an all-in-one and treadmill. That is pretty much all I need.
Thanks.

DB's and a bench are nice, but if I could only choose ONE item it would be the Powertec WB-LS16 or similar Body Solid. Are they absolutely perfect, not by any means. But with some creativity and patience it can do everything you need to build a solid physique. I'm sure there are other multi-gyms out there that are nice, I have seen some cool Hoist and Tuff stuff pieces. But the leverage gyms generally get the job done cheaper, and they pop-up on craigslist frequently for $250-$500.

As much a fan as I have been of free weights, body solid machines, and old fashioned calisthenics, I got my wife the Bowflex Max Trainer M5. Mainly because she loves the elliptical. And I thought she would benefit from something with a little more impact. I can't wait to try it out myself just to see if its all hyped up. I do notice the BS Before and After photos that Bowflex presents. Seriously? Are people really STILL dumb enough to fall for those?
