I have not drunk for 5 years, I was an alcoholic in the past, I stopped drinking when my family turned away from me. Sport always helps me get rid of stress. Glad to communicate.

my 2 year anniversary has just passed, I quit because one was too many but 10 was never enough.

I'm fitter, stronger, healthier, leaner, faster....... there are no downsides to quitting drinking

I dont want to take more praise than I deserve as I've "quit" many times. You can probably find numerous day 1 posts by me itt.

However I made it through black Wednesday and Thanksgiving. Its amazing how much better the body feels without drinking.

Totally missed this thread. I haven't had a drink of alcohol in 10 months and 10 days. I did 30 days of inpatient March of 2020. Yes, covid lock down happened 7 days after I walked into treatment. I'm approaching 39 years old. In those 10 months I've faced some incredibly hard challenges. Yet I did it w/o drinking, so I keep proving to myself I don't need it. Dem feels!!!

The gains at the gym now a days are incredible when comparing no drinking to drinking

I'm having a lot of trouble right now. My wife and I had a big arguement superbowl night. Police showed up and got arrested. My drinking put me into a really bad situation. Although my wife was also drinking and escalating the arguing it turned into what it did because of me and my actions.

I really could just use a place to let out my feelings and get some advice. I was not daily drinking but whenever I tried to control and social drink it eventually got out of control.

Things are a mess. I can't contact my wife, although I know she wants me to get help and return. My son and daughter are 7 and 8. I do so many things with them. I'm missing them so much.

I have my own business and put our current job on hold. I'm starting a recovery program today. A lady my wife and I both know runs it and she's been talking to my wife. My wife reached out to her.

I'll end it here for now. Thanks for reading.

I got a dui in 97 and had to take an alcohol education class. I was in serious denial about my drinking, and to be honest, my wife was an enabler because her dad was a big drinker too. In the class they mentioned "if your drinking causes you problems, then you have a drinking problem!" Best definition I've ever heard.

I've been sober now for 16 years, so about half my adult life I drank. The other half I didn't, and I can honestly say there's no comparison: sobriety wins!

I hope this helps turn things around for you. I'm not one to get into anyone's personal business and tell people how to handle their affairs, but I will say this. If you are in fact an alcoholic/addict.. be prepared to do a lot of self reflection and get down the root causes of your drinking. It'll be uncomfortable at first, it usually is, but it's 100 percent necessary for you to move forward in improving yourself and then after, your relationships. You gotta keep it focused on your issues and not worry about the wrongs or actions of others as that's not what's important. The drinking (or drugs as it was in my case) is just a secondary result of covering up what's really ailing you.

All the best to you. I hope we hear better news in the future from you.

Agree. Posting here is a small thing, but still can be part of you starting real change. There are people here who care and will ask how you are doing - but the real work will still be up to you!
Work hard at it, ask for help, be humble (so difficult).

    YOU CAN DO THIS!

    Thanks guys.

Things are getting better. I've been at a hotel but making the most of it.

I joined a gym and have reconnected with many of my friends I used to go to church with.

I've got an official diagnosis for ptsd now and have started a medication to help with sleep and mood disorder.

Staying positive and have come to terms with this. I've known drinking has always been an issue. It doesn't bother me at all to not drink. I've gone years without drinking in the past. Accepting the fact that cannot ever drink is what I need to continue with. Fill my free time with activities with sober friends or at the very least non-drinking situations.

I really feel like the ptsd diagnosis is going to help me deal with it as well. I literally have a mental condition that means I cannot be drinking because it has the potential to make it much worse.

Thanks for the update. Glad you are working on learning about the antecedents of your drinking and making some difficult decisions. It can be hard to accept that one cannot drink 'when others can,' but you are doing what's best for you! Keep at it! It's a long road, especially with the other issues - but just like lifting keep making incremental progress and you'll look back on this and be amazed at how much better you feel.

Yep. I couldn't even have a glass of champagne at my daughter's wedding five years ago, but it is what it is.

I think both are great for tackling alcoholism. Bible believers should know that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and as such, we should not abuse it with excessive alcohol. For most of us, this means NO alcohol

And for gym goers, while many just care to get big and shredded at any cost (drugs!), for most of us it's a lifestyle that means that we want to eat and live healthy. Again, this means not abusing alcohol and for most us of, this means . . . (you guessed it: NO ALCOHOL)

I haven't had booze for a while now nearly 2 years, I have other things to spread my money on like weights and Treadmill and focusing on healthy food. Doing things that I want to do. I feel free from it. even so, I no longer count where I am, I keep it out of my head most of the time, there are better things in life to enjoy.
yea it's hard work but I feel a lot better without it in my life. Well done with getting where you are everyone.
