I will be celebrating a year clean and sober on 8/3/19. Six months into my recovery I decided to take up weight training. I was dealing with a lot of the emotions and triggers that creep up when doing the 4th step and often times the emotions would get in the way of my motivation to train. I was feeling a bit depressed about going into something, once again, and quitting before I really saw any results. Then I had a “revelation.” I cannot add muscle to my body because the cells in my body are still holding onto trauma. I cannot build a body on a foundation still full of cracks. After I started to adopt this way of thinking, I don’t feel so down on myself. Being so close to having a year under me, working the steps and going to meetings, and working with a therapist to release old trauma and negative patterns of thinking, I’m starting to feel that desire to start training again.

i was a social alcoholic for 20 years. I had gastric sleeve done in august of last year which among other things is forced no alcohol for a year which among my food addictions is also a reset on booze. carbonation is a bad thing for us bariatric folk, so i'm assuming when i can drink again, it'll be a single 4oz taster at a brewery and that's it. even shots can be bad with to much sugar in the hard stuff, so it'll maybe be one or 2 fingers sipped for an entire night, if at all. booze was my only vice, without that, and all the other changes i've gone thru (down 120 lbs in six months, diet, excercise, etc) i've got some anger issues i need to work thru. my fuse is a little shorter than it used to be.

Hello all. For the first time tonight I admitted to MYSELF that I have a problem. Hard pill to swallow for sure. I'm not sure where to turn yet - but at least I am aware.
I know it's an uphill climb I am terrified. Won't say more for now, I am just grateful this thread is here. And thank you all for being there for me.

When you abstain, you get to the point where you do not even think about alcohol any longer. I guess that point comes at different times for different people but for me it was around the 9 month point. I now very rarely think about drinking, let alone glamorizing or fantasizing about it. Fantastically well done on dropping 120Lbs that is a massive achievement.

Take the not drinking a single day at a time, and best of luck.

I was in exactly the same position as you in November 2018, I don't know what I was but I know I drank too much, 1 was too many but 10 was never enough. Awareness that you have an issue is the first step, now just take one day at a time.

I guarantee you will feel better, both physically and mentally as you get through the days, weeks, months.....

All my local aa meetings are closed wtf wtf wtf wtf and the online meetings are limited and I can’t find a decent one

its happening every where zoom has a meeting every night at 10 pm eastern from inner group that’s a video chat or just chat no video. 900 people tuned in 31 states and 3 countries, meetings are closing everywhere. Detox centers won’t take new clients, it’s sad. My local group is doing a large conference call

Too much alcohol will tank your testosterone levels.

Anyone got fukked up iron levels from all the previous drinking? Quit drinking ~6 months back, finally making some gains in the gym. But I'm tired all the time and having trouble sleeping. Turns out it's bad circulation because I'm pretty much anemic, now I'm taking iron pills which aren't particularly nice to take. Play stupid games you win stupid prizes I guess..

S far I have styed pretty much the same. I have been watching my diet though. This week and next Im eating like crap then entering the Muscle Tech contest here on BB.com. Looking for big transformation in '09. Thanks to everyone for your input, I think this could be a great thread....

. Yes, it is very good thinking that you are going to participate the muscle contest. You should be strict on your exercise and good diet. This could be very helpful for you.

Been sober from drugs and alcohol for 17 years now... since I was 23 years old.

One thing's for sure... no alcohol makes it that much easier to stay in shape!

I am a recovering alcoholic and was hoping to start a discussion with other alcoholics who wuld be interested. Alcoholism is very powerfull and we can use all the help we can get.

I put it in the over 35 section basically because I did'nt know where else to put it. The Misc section is full of, well im not sure what its full of, but I don't think it would have been takin seriously over there. So, here we go....
