It is a good thing too because it took me years to complete my amends.

btw for new comers bankruptcy isn't making an amend, an amend is repairing the damage.

How do you make amends to a family for over a decade of addiction? I had to start living clean and sober every day, trying to put their needs ahead of my own when possible, I've been trying to live like that for 23 years now which is over twice as long as I used drugs and alcohol, I feel that amend is made but keeping living it brings me a lot of joy so I continue trying.

if you don't have a sponser in the program take your time and choose a good one, they can help you with the amends process.

If anyone has been following me they know that fall is the absolute worst time of tthe years as it is my wifes' b/c that's when she was diagnosed with stage 3b cancer and was told that sooner or later it will be back to finish it's business. So you get me struggling as always, my wife struggling as she has earned, and my 7 year old burtally destroying a dinner I worked so hard to make b/c dinner time is the obsolutely most important time our of our day next to bed time for bonding. You get me feeling rejected me and failing. Granted one night of booze and ambien doesn't make a family destroying event but I was doing the best that I have in year.
No lie it's been rough and I've been crying over my desire to booze but I have fought that off and urge is so much less than it has been.

This is a pivotal moment for me : go back to old or blow this off and have the strongest fall in years.

Be strong JRT! My wife was diagnosed with BRCA I and II back in 2001. We made the tough decisions and she had several life altering surgeries (mastectomies, hyst, ooverectomy, etc). Took her over a year to get back to anything even close to normal and we basically lost 2 years of our life getting her back on her feet.

We made a decision to not let fear of cancer own us. Pretty easy to say, not so easy to do. We made a decision to go and live. So we go and do as much as we can with our kids and family. Every day is NOT rainbows and skittles, but we do sit around waiting and fearing Cancer.

Let me play life coach for one minute.

You are right on the money to not let one bad night ruin the next 30 days or 30 years. Someone in your home must make the decision to stop living in fear and move forward in faith. I am betting they are looking to you.

    Where is that guy at?

You got to let him out and go kick life's a$$. You have made amazing physical progress this year! Can you imagine how good you will feel if you put half that effort into finding the positives things you and your family can go do, the people you will influence...

I can imagine it, because that is what we were shown how to do.

I'm good. My bad day is over and done with and now it's on me to keep going strong or to fall into the old pattern. It's still a choice and chosing the be better is a whole lot bettr than having to chose to stop.

Thanks for the positivity Big Sky.

My wife isn't real freaked about me so I didn't scare anyone for once. That's another positive b/c shame makes it harder to do the right things.

Hey guys. Someone recommended me about this sticky to check out. Figure I'd drop in and say hello.

Hi my name is ___ I'm an alcoholic... lol, no jk.

Just wanted to say that I'm 34 days sober from alcohol.

I decided to quit because I can't remember a single moment since I started where I haven't NOT had a drink in 6 months..then I thought to myself, how about 3 months? Nope. How about 2 months? nope.

So I went and sought out a counselor (good guy, works at the VA) and he laid it out all on the table for me. Basically told me I have to make a decision. So I did.

Things that improved in my life thus far is:

    - an awareness of alcohol around me
    - how much activities of friends are involved around alcohol
    - my poker game has improved 100% (made 5 final tables out of 7 tournaments)
    - my relationship with my girlfriend of 4.5 years has resulted in less arguments

My initial goal is to go 90 days without a sip. Then from there, I'm going to go for 6 months. And then do a total self-assessment of myself where I am at that point.

One thing I'm proud of; I play in horseshoe tournaments year round, and have always drank at every one. My counselor told me I would do the same if I attended this year's event. Since I'm competitive, I used that as motivation to NOT drink. Instead, I bought a 24 pack of water, stuffed it in a cooler with ice and drank those all day.

Just wanted to introduce myself real quick. Will go back and read through thread later tonight.

Have a good night guys and gals.

Hey man that's great. Be careful with the gambling because a lot of us substitute one addiction for another. Have you gone to any meetings?

September is the official national recovery month and a banquet will be happening tomorrow with the Mayor and a few other guest speakers.
As well as the largest recovery cake ever made.

I'd like to think its all about me
