About 6 months ago I had to have a total thyroid removal. I put on approx 15kg after the operation and have lost most of that now.
I was aiming to compete and was progressing really well and on track but then got really sick and my thyroid went into toxic storm.
I was just wondering if anyone else has no thyroid and has any advice that may help in my fitness journey.
My online trainer for the past 6 weeks is Diana Chaloux and she is fantastic, but its moreso the unknown factor of will I be able to really cut down and reach my goal.
Im following my program but mentally unsure of what is a realistic goal.
I have accepted that It probably wont be possible to compete and that its a constant game trying to get replacement t3 4 levels correct with thyroxine. BUT IM a positive focussed person.
99% of info on the net is negative and people just state that they cant loose weight etc and how it a struggle. Also most of the info is on people that are Hyper or Hypo but still have the thyroid. I have NO thyroid at all.
IM SEARCHING for positive people that have this road block.
Diana is great :-)
But maybe there are certain excercises or foods that I should focus on aswell.
Thanks

If you are able to get your T3/4 back into the correct range, I see no reason why you couldn't compete. Getting the T3/4 into the correct range initially can take many months, but once you have worked out the correct dose you should be good to go.

Nearly a year On
Well nearly a year with No thyroid and its going great.
Im on 150mg one day and 200 the next which pretty much works out to 175mg of thyroxine a day.
All the weight has come off and my lean muscle is back to what it was before I got graves disease.
Just put this post up again for anyone that has the same illness and feels like the weight will never come off.
To be HONEST if you eat clean and workout 6 days a week, there is NO reason why you cant get the body you desire. Seriously the mind is a powerful tool.
Think positive even on the days your levels are low and dont feel the best, always know that 2morrow is a new day and you may not have exact control over your levels but we have TOTAL control of what goes in our mouths.
It has been hard work and total dedication but it can be done :-)

Hi I need some help here. I've recently been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and the doctor has required me to do a thyroidectomy which means removing half/whole of my thyroid. I've did my research online and saw the side effects if you don't get the correct level of synthetic thyroxine right.
May I ask,
since thyroid is responsible for production of metabolism hormones, and even if the doctor prescribes me the correct amount of thyroxine, but doesn't that just means my metabolism hormones are going to be the same rate, even if I don't workout/eat clean?
I mean if I workout, my thyroid will create more metabolism hormones, but now since I have no more thyroid, how am I going to increase my metabolism without a thyroid and only given a standard prescription of synthetic thyroxine?
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I couldn't find any articles pertaining to my questions, I am really worried of gaining back all the weight I've lost through working out and eating clean because of my cancer.

Struggling to get it under control...
I'm still working with my doctor because I have antibodies for both Graves and Hashimoto's. Most recently I was producing 44 times the normal level for hyperthyroidism and 6 times the norm for hypo T3/T4. We've discussed a complete removal of the thyroid gland. Unfortunately, I will be changing doctors soon because I'm moving (part of the military life). But seeing these posts although only a few is really encouraging. On an up note my last labs came back closer to normal, but my doc fears this is only going to get worse as the push/pull continues until eventually my thyroid fails altogether. So, I'm just going to keep working to at least maintain where I am, and if I lose some of this weight so much the better. I'm doing my best to stay positive but it is daunting at times.

Hello! I'm new on here! And lemme say that all that I have read has really motivated me to stay positive!! Let me start by saying: almost two years ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had my entire thyroid removed. Before that, I had been working so hard to lose and gain muscle. I absolutely loved my legs and butt etc. I was pregnant during surgery and again after iodine. Both times I lost all my muscle. Two months ago I had my youngest. During my last pregnancy my levels were "normal" after the baby I last 20 pounds in 15 days. (Probably less). Now I'm struggling with gaining muscle and not "weight " (fat) if you get me? Any advice? I try really hard to eat as healthy as I can. But sometimes it's hard. I have 4 kids and always busy running around. ... I'm just trying to meet people like me! NO THYROID and POSITIVE. who can keep me motivated. I love working out, but scare I'll gain weight and won't be able to control it.

I was born without a thyroid. It is possible just not very easy. Have you thought about your brand choice? I have heard consistently through the years that synthroid is the best. I always felt like there was somewhat of a difference in how i felt on generics. It takes a lot of will power plus you have to remember that your metabolism definitely isn't as efficient as others with a thyroid so you can't follow run of the mill nutrition advice. I find I function much better with lower carbs than your average person.

No thyroid can’t get gains!!!
Hey guys wondered if you can offer me some advice, I’d really appreciate it!! I had my complete thyroid removed due to cancerous lump on it. Now they gave me Levothyroxine as my hormone replacement & it’s sped up my metabolism. Previously I had muscle & shape, now I look skinny & no matter how much I eat I can’t add weight. Before I lost thyroid I could pump up & hold my gains pretty easily, so I’m super frustrated, especially after going through all that hospital stuff. I have to be mindful what I intake now because of having thyroid cancer so I’m gluen free/organic etc. but can anyone tell me how I can get around this high metabolism and put some weight /gains back on given my situation. Would really appreciate any tips. Thank you 🙏

They won’t let me go lower as they need my TSH surpressed at zero so my thyroid stimulating hormone doesn’t kick in & create anything more unwanted cells. I feel ok on the dose in terms of energy etc just not happy with weight loss.
I heard gluten free stops inflammation which is good if you had cancer & organic to avoid chemicals that can also increase chances of C.
I will work out how I can get more calories into my diet. Thanks for input. Appreciate it

For most people gluten free will not make a difference. Consider getting your inflammatory markers checked while on a gluten-free diet and then stop the gluten-free diet (assuming your physician has not advised you to be on one) and get them checked again after 1 month; if there is no increase then you shouldn't have to worry about it. The inflammatory markers most people obtain are the CRP and ESR.
It's easy to get more calories in your diet, just make bigger portions or add cheap stuff that isn't unhealthy (ie, peanut butter, olive oil).My 100% free website: www.healthierwithscience.com
