I know I'm slagging off this week keeping up with the journal but really nothing note worthy and definitely not my normal training structure. Doing a lot of assistance stuff here and there as I get to it and haven't done a bench session since Sunday. I have squated and deadlifted three times this week Mon, Wed., and Friday but really nothing serious or heavy. 405 on the squats and 315 on the deads for singles just trying to get the damn gear down. I started with a high box on Monday, parallel on Wednesday, and a below today. High box and Parallel I've got down but below that I'm still having major issues. Deads seem fine and I should be ready for the bench but fook me on the squats.

Very nice progress and great log. Seems like you re-built that strength you lost VERY quickly. You and I are very similar in weight class and pounds moved. However, I have yet to go to a meet - any tips for a first timer? I'm pretty nervous I must say.
Current PRs, training only of course, all raw between 215 and 220 bodyweight:
Squat - 435
Deadlift - 540
Bench - 325
At first impression it didn't seem like I would be competitive, but looks like with a little work I could get somewhere. I've recently started another 5x5 cycle (my 2nd overall) and it seems to be going well.
Good luck and keep training hard man, you're a monster![]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 13

Main tips would be to go attend a meet, go compete in a meet, take really easy openers and don't worry about your weight class. That all makes it as stress free as possible.
Thanks, but I'm far from being a monster. I've been having one personal problem after another since last June and mentally have been beaten down. I'll be doing this meet at the end of the month and just try and have as much fun as possible with as little stress as possible.
It'll be my little get away and hopefully reset my attitude again. I miss the platform and can't wait to get back on it again. I do see light here and getting close to the end of the tunnel. I should be back on track and totally driven to smash some PR's this April meet. Starting February 1st right after the meet I'll be in full training for it. I should also be able to shed some more light on what has been going on in my life the past couple months that has drastically effected my training.Last edited by Jason2459; 01-14-2009 at 12:26 PM.

That's right BIOTCHES I'm ****ing pissed. Every day I get more and more pissed off at how much of a pussy I am and I better start getting serious in training before I punch someone. I'm scrapping my plan and decided to go back to the basics. I trusted in Dave Tate before and it worked. I'll trust in them again. I got the new Beginner Training book. Kick ass book. EVERYONE needs to get it. Really good explanations and great job on explaining WHY you need to do things. Several tips on setting up your own routine, what most people do wrong, and great FAQ after each section. The next two weeks I'm starting with the basic 12 week template as it starts off low volume which is good coming up to my meet in two weeks which I'll still do and just have a great time. I'm focused right now on April 11th. After the meet I'll pick up on the Revised Dave Tate express 9 week beginners program.Last edited by Jason2459; 01-19-2009 at 04:38 PM.

I am doing the 12 week basic course as well, it seems very well developed and it is giving me the opportunity to work on my form, instead of setting the limits to high in the beginning. I still havnt finished reading the whole book yet, I really need to finish, but I have been spending to much time reading articles on EliteFTS.
Good luck on your meet!★cVc★

That's really good that you're researching a lot. Just make sure to not get all caught up in making things to complex. Did you get the basic training manual, little white one, or the basic training book/e-book? Either way they are both good but the newest Book they just came out with really kicks ass.

I bought and downloaded the ebook off elitefts. I am not changing anything for the first cycle, unless my gyms equpment doesnt support it. I may have to change the back raises to a cable back extensionn machine. My gyms back raise stand is so damn small, I put 2 45 lbs plates on it and still allmost did a face plant. I just dont think that it is designed for using any kind of weight at all.
I am going to do the program a second time, adding bands and chains to DE days and then maybe switching out accessory lifts to help with certain weaknesses.★cVc★

Damn straight. Brian you are totally right. I just need to suck it up, let my balls drop, and pull out the tampons. I felt like my head was going to explode and I do think my eye ball did pop out a bit but I didn't feel like I was being folded in half. I concentrated hard on sitting back, keeping my back tight, and pushing those knees out. I'm slow as heck getting down but getting back up is super easy. Bar still feels wierd too with the straps up. I haven't done lounges in a LONG time and those hurt really badly right now and I know I'll really need a lot of foam rolling the next few days on my hams and gluts. I have no idea how many sets I did on the situps either. I just kept going until I hit 30reps total. I kept my hands up by my head and made them a bit harder. Soon I'll start adding some weight.Last edited by Jason2459; 01-23-2009 at 07:06 PM.
