    Preparing For Finals With Help From Cognitive Nutrition: PEA, L-DOPA, & L-Huperzine A

    Note: I will be adding L-DOPA and L-Huperzine A after I have noted the effects of PEA by itself.

    -Description-

    PhenylEthylAmine (PEA) is a neuromodulator (monoamine) in the brain involved in mood, pleasure, mental alertness, focus, etc. It naturally occurs in small amounts in chocolate, certain algae?s, etc.

    Phenylethylamine is related to the following neurotransmitters and neuroactive compounds:

    Dopamine (3,4-dihydroxy-phenethylamine), Tyramine (4-hydroxy-phenethylamine), Epinepinephrine (?,3,4-trihydroxy-N-methyl-phenethylamine), Ephedrine (N-methyl-?-hydroxy-amphetamine), etc.

    Its chemically structural relation to these compounds account for its unique effects on enhancing mental and mood functioning. However its effects are relatively short acting as it is usually broken down by the enzyme MAO-B within several hours. This makes it an ideal short-lived yet safe fast acting compound.

    Btw how has this been working out for you so far? If you respond well to 200mcg feel free to bump it up to 300/400mcg before the actual exams.

    Day 1
    I took 750mg (one pill) of PEA when I got up. The only problem was the fact that "when I got up" means approximately 4:30pm. Considering I had a meeting with my coach at 12:30 and a class at 2:30, this was not a good thing. I was quite pissed b/c the person in the room next to me was playing his techno so loud that I never heard my alarm. However, it didn't really seem to bug me as much as it usually would and I got over it a lot faster than I normally would. Usually I would pout about it for the rest of the day, but I was back to normal in about an hour. PEA definitely helped keep me in a good mood during a ****ty day.

    Day 2
    Again, I took one pill of PEA when I got up. I had a test today, and I felt really calm and not nervous or rushed at all. I do get test anxiety somewhat, and I think PEA definitely helped keep me calm and focused on the test. I'll let you guys know how I did (it was Econ 101 so not that hard). When we had practice today, I wasn't stressing over every point when we were playing challenge matches and played better overall because of that. The PEA definitely helped me in both sports and academics today.

    Day 3
    It was Saturday, so I was taking a break from PEA and I didn't take anything else since I didn't study or do any work

    Day 4
    Took one cap of L-Dopa today, and wow I felt extremely happy for a good 4-5 hours after taking it. I've never been so happy to go to an 8:30 chem class in my entire life. I also felt a lot more focused at the gym then I usually am. I'll be taking L-Huperzine by itself to feel the effects, and then I'll start putting them all together and we'll see what type of fun we can have with that

    Day 5
    Took one cap of L-Huperzine A before falling asleep. For some reason, I've been having extremely vivid dreams lately (pre-supplementation). I don't think my dreams could get any more intense, but I did notice a little more color. However, I think I'm going to start supplementing the L-Huperzine with the L-Dopa.


    Day 6
    Took one cap of PEA in the morning, showered, and then took another cap. I had a great mood throughout the day even though bad news seems to be piling up and up. Taking both caps at the same time is going to be intense, and so will trying it with coffee (not a big coffee person but I might try and get my hands on some). Next, I'll be taking the Huperzine and Dopa together to see the affects without PEA. I've decided that since I'm switching up doses I won't combine all three until I come to one steady dose (aka - keep changing only one variable so I can see the differences doses).

    PEA dose in the morning could be effecting your sleep at night did you start when you started PEA or soon after?

    I agree, this is a great log!! And you will love L-DOPA from personal experience... I love taking 2 caps of it with some PEA before bedroom time Pyritinol you should love from what I have read on it, have yet to experience it though (will be soon!!)

    Day 7
    Took two caps in the morning together on an empty stomache. I was so focused on studying that I wasn't thinking about what type of effects the PEA would have on me. Then, all of sudden, it hit me hard. It's somewhat hard to explain- kind of like a tingling throughout all your body and a little dizziness. It's almost like being a little buzzed physically (no cognitive slowness). For tennis, we have a sports psychologist and sometimes we work on muscle relaxing drills. We concentrate on different muscle parts until we completely relax the entire body and put ourselves in a state where every muscle is as loose as possible. Taking two PEA felt very much like when we do this. The focus was also very noticeable, although the fact that I only had 3 hours til my final probably also added to that.

    Day 8
    Took Huperzine and L-Dopa together. I have been having a really ****ty week. I mean everyone has a ****ty week during finals but here are some examples of what else have occured within the past week:
    -I have been informed I am being sued by a douchebag company.
    -In my chem final, the student behind me picked up my scantron and started copying off of it (never met this kid before in my life, wtf?), which not only distracted me but also means that I now have to waste my time with conduct counsil and testify against him.
    -I dropped my brand new Macbook Pro off my lofted bed after falling asleep while studying and shattered the LCD.
    Usually, this would really get my down. Although, it has affected me somewhat, I feel that the L-Dopa has really helped me keep my mood up during the day. It has definitely helped keep me positive.

    Day 9
    Combined the two PEA in the morning with L-Dopa/Huperzine A later in the day. Again, I felt the effects of the PEA. There's not really much difference than what I have described above- the effects are still as strong. L-Dopa is still keeping me positive. I'm guessing that adding Huperzine with it helps, but I expect Huperzine to be more of a supplement that helps you out in the long run rather than giving you an instant, describable feeling.


    For all those keeping up with this log, I apologize for the amount of time it's taking me inbetween posts. Since I have no laptop, I have to go to the library just to use a computer and update these posts. Once I get my laptop fixed, I will add the profiles for Huperzine A and Dopa. Thanks for everyone's support though.
