So excited for the Olympics this time around..looks like a complete generational shift. So many new talents and incredible athletes coming from the U.S. as well. But props to Allyson Felix for qualifying for her 5th Olympics. Then finally someone who can possibly get close or get Flo Jo's old 100 m record from 1988, Sha'carri Richardson. Crouser just smashed a 30 yr old shot put record, Mondo did 6 m pole vault over here in rainy weather, and our own Daniel Ståhl looks solid for 70 m + discus throws. Then the male sprinters looks amazing as well.














Obviously I'm personally looking mainly at track, but what are you guys looking forward to?

Just wish they could also have bench, squat, and deads in there....never got into the regular weightlifting much.



Incredible U.S. track trials thus far.

Erriyon Knighton, a 17 yr old that has just been running for 2 yrs, broke Usain Bolt's 18 yr old youth record, then lowered it 2 more times by wide margins and beat the current world champ in the semis., as well as setting a new U20 record.

And Dina Asher Smith in the U.K. just joined Fraser Pryce and Sha'carri in the 100m battle with a fresh 10.71. This Olympics will be something special.

Spectators will need to clear several antivirus requirements, including temperature checks and mask-wearing, just to get into venues. No refunds are available for those who fail to fulfil the requirements.

Once inside, they are forbidden from cheering or “making direct contact with other spectators” and will be asked to go straight home after the end of the event.

Asking athletes for autographs or “expressing verbal support” is also a no-no, as is waving a towel or “any form of cheering that could create a crowd”.

“The festive mood will have to be suppressed – that has become a major challenge,” Hashimoto told reporters. “People can feel joy in their hearts, but they can’t be loud and they have to avoid crowds.

“Those are the areas where we need to be creative, and we are putting in a lot of effort to come up with a new way of celebrating.”

Spectators will also have to do without alcohol, even though it is allowed at other sporting events currently being held in Japan.

Hashimoto said the ban was decided “to alleviate the concerns of the public as much as possible”.


“The fun and celebration expected in an international event won’t be seen in Tokyo,” Salameh said.

“Many of the events, especially the cultural events… are cancelled. The athletes have to stay in the Olympic village. They can’t go out, they have to report every day and get tested daily. There are so many challenges just a month away from the Olympics.”

With the July 23 opening ceremony nearing, organisers are scrambling to finalise preparations and win over a sceptical public, pledging the Games will be safe for locals and participants.

Domestic opposition to the Games has softened recently, but about half of Japan’s public is still against the event opening in four weeks, polls show.

I will watch what I can of it, Summers are busy for me doing fun things but hope to catch up on rainy days and after the sun goes down. Most likely on youtube so I can get the highlights and FF through the boring stuff.

I'm starting to get the Olympic fever vibe, but with all that's going on, it's been a sporadic buildup this year. I am super stoked aboot our National Trampoline team and their prospects for bouncing success and hopefully even some medals.

Actually, they should totally have an event where the medals are taped to the ceiling and the athletes have to bounce super-high to reach and grab them.

Been crazy the past few weeks here in Eugene! I wasn't able to go in person to any events but was a great atmosphere. Was so hot here over the weekend they had to delay events into the evening to cool off, but athletes still went out there at midnight PST and did some amazing things!

Nice to live there if you like the sport, great tradition from what I've seen. Dreamt of going to such a place as a youth, but an injury put an end to that...but had still done so much preparation for it that I went to the states anyways ...as a normal student. How many ppl do they let into an event over there? Not even sure what the numbers are over here, just that they are easing restrictions a bit on July 1...letting 50 ppl be in a single indoor place or if divided into proper sections 50 per section.

I haven't seen any news on track, at this level, being affected by this yet. I know in the past few years I've seen 3 of these similar cases in middle distance running, but think they are temporarily out of it due to harder regulations cause haven't seen them in some time. Not sure how other sports are affected though.

Star sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson has been suspended for one month after testing positive for marijuana, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced Friday, putting her participation in the Tokyo Olympics in doubt.

Shortly before the decision was announced, the 21-year-old Richardson took responsibility during an interview on "Today."

"I know what I did. I know what I'm supposed to do ... and I still made that decision," she said.

Richardson said she didn't want to make any excuses, but explained she used marijuana to help cope after learning from a reporter about her biological mother's death during the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. The use of recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Oregon, but banned from from her sport.


"That sent me in a state of emotional panic, if anything...even though, I'm here, I still have to go out to put a performance for my dream," she said.

Richardson won't be able to run in her signature race, the 100-meter dash, in Tokyo, but she could potentially compete in the 100-meter relay. During the interview, she said she would be grateful for the opportunity, but her focus is on healing herself. She also apologized to fans and asked for their understanding.

"Don't judge me, because I am human, I'm you, I just happen to run a little faster," she said.

The Olympic torch relay has been cancelled on Tokyo's streets, as fears over the spread of Covid-19 continue to plague the Games.

Starting Friday, public relay events in the city will be replaced with flame-lighting ceremonies streamed online - the latest setback for the event.

Only the leg in the remote Ogasawara islands, south of Tokyo, will go ahead as planned, officials said.

Tokyo 2020 is due to begin on 23 July despite public opposition.
