Because neither the states nor the parties would agree to that. The primary schedule is nominally set by each state, but in reality, is set by the political parties, since the parties have the power to reduce or even eliminate the votes of the delegates from states that don't abide by the party's primary schedule. The parties like the long campaign and primary season where they can do lots of events and suck up lots of money.

Who is "selecting" him and why? Why wasn't he "selected" last time? What did Joe do to lose favor with the selectors? The idea being elections in democratic nations are great for the ruling elite because they give citizens the idea that they have more influence than they actually do. Rotating the people / parties in power can help stave off the stagnation that can result in one person / party remaining in power too long.

Back to Quigley, conspiracy theorists are of the opinion that he exposes the globalist plot to establish an internationally governed neo-feudalism, with the elitist banking interests controlling everything for their own benefit.

But, as far as I can tell, the actual main thesis of Tragedy and Hope seems to be:

A) Powerful groups of wealthy individuals and captains of finance and industry congregate together in the same social and political circles to discuss where their mutual interests align and how they might work together,

B) These people use their wealth and influence to attempt to shape policy to their advantage, or whatever other ends they see fit at that time, and

C) Significant events such as WWII, the Cold War, the rise of leftist social/economic movements in the late 19th/early 20th century, etc. are not caused or controlled by these powerful interests, but merely manipulated and capitalized upon.

This all seems rather obvious and logical. Powerful people want to protect and further their interests and attempt to influence the government in order to do so. This doesn't automatically make them or what they do inherently bad or evil (even though it certainly could turn out to be).


Where Quigley seems to get slightly more conspiratorial (in the global-cabal-controlling-everything sort of arena) is in his book "The Anglo-American Establishment," where he details Cecil Rhodes' and the Milner Group's attempts to build a secret society of elites whose purpose would be furthering the imperial interests of the Anglosphere, and bringing all parts of the Commonwealth, America, and several other parts of the world under one imperial parliament. Several Rhodes affiliates later formed the CFR in America, the Bilderberg group, and the Trilateral Commission.

While we can certainly see these trends of globalism (versus simply globalization) in politics today, both in the EU and America, I'm more inclined to believe it's a result of A) powerful people looking out for their interests, as I mentioned above, and B) the genuine beliefs of well-meaning but terribly misguided internationalists. I'm hard pressed to find evidence of the evil capitalist/imperialist cabal's conspiracy to take over the world.

I think people have a hard time believing that much of human existence is just, at best, very loosely coordinated chaos - and most commonly a sloppy and mostly unknown web of cause and effect. It's tough for people to accept that there is no hyper-intelligent entity controlling what happens in the world, so they cling to things like religion and the Bilderberg group.

I didn’t read every word of this, that’s for a lawyer, but from some of it I don’t know why you say “conspiracy theorist” because if you ever watched any of the global conference they actually say they want to see everything you do and control and it’s in the name of “security”.
