Great post! I was wondering what you think about the T-bar deadlift (I think thats what its called?) The bar that surrounds you basically. Pros? Cons? I can't seem to find a stickie about them.

That is a trap bar deadlift. T-bar is used for rows.

Trap bar deads are more akin to squats, than they are deadlifts.

This thread is amazing! Perfect for all the questions I needed answering except one.. Is it smart or stupid to do a normal deadlift for one set then a Romanian deadlift the next? If you could choose only one which would it be? I started doing heavy weights with poor form but I now realise it's much much more beneficial to go lower and get the form spot on

It isn't smart nor stupid per se. Depends on what you want.

Both hit relatively the same muscles, with romanians having a bit more emphasis on glute/ham work. It also keeps constant tension on the muscles, so you won't use as much weight.

I personally wouldn't alternate sets of them, but that is just because it isn't conducive to my goals.

Chazzy thanks for the advice, I don't know why but the deadlift is the most
difficult exercise for me to get right! And I'm interested in building my glutes and hams further so i guess the Romanian is the best then and maybe just do them on different days? My ass is big but I want solid muscle instead of the muscle/fat i have now lol

I personally would do them on separate days. I use conventional deadlifts for lower back work (my high hip style forces more load onto the back), and RDLs for glute/ham work.

thanks for the writeup. i've always deadlifted sumo mainly because thats how i learned. And ive always gotten stuck around the 400 mark. had the usual stick point off the ground. switched my form to a higher hips conventional style recently and seem to be stronger that way!!! so thanks again!

Amazing. Finally stumbled across this. Deads on Tuesday and I'm gonna apply some of the little things I didn't know and see how that helps!
