How bad is ritalin pre-workout (serious)

I've done this once or twice at a pretty small dose (10-20 mgs) and I've had incredible workouts. Outside of this I don't use stims since they don't do **** for me. I find that methylphenidate @ 10 mgs has little effect on my pulse/blood pressure (I have an Omron cuff) so I'm not too worried about that. Only thing is the anorectic effects, so it would probably be better saved for cut.
Would there be any safety concerns with this?

I don't see how it would causes any major issues, I would be most worried about the addictive nature of it.

Well, when used to treat ADHD it's used daily, usually at 20 mgs a day. I only workout 4x a week so I would only be taking 10 mgs 4x weekly (if my workout is early in the day, the stuff does last kinda long). I would imagine that a psychological dependence could develop. I.e, I'll have really crappy workouts if I don't take it. I'd likely cycle it, though.

I've never specifically used Ritalin, but I would never recommend anyone take Adderal before a workout.

Why? Because it elevates your heart rate tremendously. It's not much different than taking a few hits of methampetamines and feeling like Godzilla and hitting the weights. It can lead to death.

Lots of people take stimulants pre-workout. Most common is caffeine. But honestly caffeine is a dirty nasty drug/high. The good stuff is all illegal because it works.
Many people have found stimulants pre-workout help bring greater intensity to their workouts.
Back when ephedra was legal there were studies done on the benefits that it has on resistance training. And of course it was a popular selling supplement.
Just be sure you take it easy though and I would highly recommend 4 weeks on 2 weeks off cycle.

Very true, after extensive supplementation with nootropics and OTC stims I've come to the same conclusion. Pretty much everything effective is illegal.

This may be true of D-Amphetamine (which you advised against) but I don't know how true it is of Methylphenidate, this is from a study of 60 patients:

"Results: There was no significant difference in mean systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate when patients received (118 mm Hg, 74 mm Hg, and 88 bpm) and did not receive (118 mm Hg, 73 mm Hg, and 86 bpm) methylphenidate."

This pretty much jives with my own personal findings. The elevation in pulse is minimal. I wish the study said what the dosage was, but I can't imagine it being lower than 10 mgs...
I'll look into a few more studies though.

Regarding addiction, here's a very interesting quote from Neuropsychiatry Reviews:

"From a pharmacological standpoint, methylphenidate is the drug that most resembles *******. Yet, despite the fact that methylphenidate is frequently abused, users do not become severely addicted or exhibit the desperate binges that can sometimes lead ******* users to take the drug every half hour for days at a time."

Like I said before, though, the psychological addiction potential is definitely there because the **** works for sure. Only stimulant I've ever taken that's worked for me.

so no other stims besides amphetamine? how conservative. i would do some reading on what it does to your BP, CNS, and cardiovascular system. it's speed, so no, not a good idea.

It's not amphetamine, but no other stims work for me (caffeine being the most obvious example).

being someone prescribed to ritalin, I dont know if I would necessarily like it before a workout. It really depends on the person though and how they respond to it. For me, it makes me really focus on studying, not a feeling I would like for workouts though. I take a PRE-WO supp though (Storm) and love that.

I know I'm resurrecting a long dead thread, but I was curious to see if anybody else takes ritalin pre-workout.

I am 32 y/o and currently take 10 mg 3-4 times per day as needed (30-40 mg total per day). I always make sure to time my doses so that I take one about 1-2 hours before I go to the gym. I also take NO Shotgun with an extra 3 gram spike of creatine.

I have never worked out and not been on ritalin (I was taking it before I started weight training), but I know if I do not take it I cannot stay awake, which is why I am prescribed it. I have never had a problem taking it in conjunction with cardio either as far as heart rate or pressure is concerned.

I guess my point is that if you take it as directed and do not over do it (no more than 10 mg per dose) then you should be fine. And no, for most people, it is not physically addictive like *******, meth, nicotine, etc.

It's okay to use if you're prescribed it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are sure it's okay with your doctor. As for methylphenidate, it is as addictive as ******* actually, methylphenidate and ******* have the same subject experience when used orally or IV, the only difference between the two is the pharmacokinetics in terms of effects (and that ******* also has 5-HT reuptake inhibition).

I too am prescribed Ritalin for adhd. Anyone prescribed this drug will get absolutely no help from it as a pre workout stimulant. The basic adhd test is how you react to Ritalin or Dex or anything from that drug group. If you are calm and peaceful on the drug then you've got adhd and you can enjoy being normal. It will take away the periods of your life where you are totally insane and crazy. If you take the drug and you don't have adhd you will essentially have a euphoric high similar to using ******* or ecstasy.
Personally, i have no idea why someone would want to put themselves into an elevated high prior to a workout. Its hard enough lifting weights without acidently spontaneously breaking into dance!
