Running on a low budget and chunk light tuna is one of the cheapest protein sources I have access to. I usually eat 9oz of chunk light tuna with some rice and veggies for lunch every day, however I recently read an article speaking on the dangerous mercury levels in these fish. Is it still ok to eat this stuff at the quantity and frequency that I'm consuming it, or should I switch to another protein source?

I spoke to a registered nutritionist/nutrition therapist about this once, as I eat tuna when I need quick protein. She said that it's not a huge issue, but that 4-5 four ounce cans is probably about all a person should eat on a regular basis (although bear in mind I'm younger and considerably lighter than you are; I guess that might make a difference). That noted, if you're going to eat tuna, make sure to get light/white tuna, because it is much lower in mercury than its darker counterpart.
Scientific studies on the issue are not very conclusive and show mixed results. If you're really worried about it, just keep intake of it under 30 oz or so per week...
If you're worried about cost, there are plenty of articles on BB.com talking about how to buy good food on a budget ($50> per week) and hit macros. To live is Christ, to die is gainz
