Bar should ideally be at the middle of the foot, but hip position might vary depending on the lifter. Three different people could have three different "correct" starting positions.

Thanks, PokLim. I think I may start to micro load squats once I reach 3x5x185, because it is getting pretty heavy for me. I'm not sure if I should wait until I miss a rep first, or just start anyway.

    95 x 5

    COMMENTS:
What a f*cking awesome workout. Squats were heavy, but after rereading The Squat in Starting Strength, I feel I have hip drive down 110%. Power cleans felt light as hell, probably because I pulled so much quicker than normal. I will start to micro load power cleans next time around.

Awesome workout. Good job on rereading starting strength. Really helped didn't it? haha. Squats look good. Keep adding 5 lbs a workout. I don't think you should start microloading squats until you start to miss reps. Don't have to change what's working right?

I was wondering, why are you microloading power cleans if they felt so light.....? Sorry, very uneducated with the power clean.

Thanks for stopping by, Mike. The presses are a standing overhead press.

Thanks, PokLim. I think I will continue to go by 5 lb increments for squats, but I will give power cleans more thought. I will most likely make my decision once I hear what some SS veterans have to say.

    145 x 3
    185 x 5

    45 x 5
    85 x 3
    120 x 5
    120 x 5
    120 x 5

    DEADLIFT:
    135 x 5
    175 x 2
    205 x 5

    WEIGH-IN:
    153 lbs

    COMMENTS:
This was a very physically draining workout, my lower back is fried right now. Squats were pretty heavy, and I'm thinking I should start to go by 2.5 lb increments starting next week. I'd like to hear other SS veterans opinions on this matter. There was a little back rounding on deadlift.

CJ, is your form starting to break down on squats? If not, you might as well go for 190 next time.

Nothing at all, it is just normally sore after my workout. It is fine now.

Here and there, just depends on my mentality in the workout. Sometimes I'm very concentrated, therefore form is awesome. Today was just one of those days where I was as concentrated as I could have been.

Keep your chest up. Write it on a sticky and hang it from your forehead.

I agree mj, add another 5# and keep plugging away.

CJ. Good work. I like the squats. I say go for 190 next workout. If you still haven't missed a rep, just keep going.
I see your bench isn't slowing down anytime soon. haha.

Concentrate hard on your deadlift form if you think you rounded your back a bit.

    Have a good weekend.

This was a very physically draining workout, my lower back is fried right now. Squats were pretty heavy, and I'm thinking I should start to go by 2.5 lb increments starting next week. I'd like to hear other SS veterans opinions on this matter. There was a little back rounding on deadlift.
The only thing that makes me wonder about going up by 2.5lbs at a time, on squats, is that you previously (way back when) completed a workout at 225 pounds, correct?

2.5lbs increments on squats seem pointless, i'd go mon/fri heavy squatting with fronts on wednesday

Thanks, PokLim. Bench press was actually not that light, but I still didn't have too much trouble with it. I think I will have to start to micro load bench press soon.

Yes, but that was with a different bar position and a much different form. It's obvious that I had lost all that strength since then.

Thanks for offering your opinion, JiP. After looking at Tad_T's journal a few minutes ago, he started to micro load his squats, and he made excellent progress. I might try to follow his footsteps on this matter, but I'll still think about it. Form is very important to me, and I feel that 5 lb increments are really starting to take a toll.

Sheesh man, you're getting stronger, but if you feel your form is starting to get a bit sloppy on squats then it would be a good idea to start micro-loading. A little back rounding on the Deadlift? Maybe you can have someone check your form in the gym next time?
