Gaspari Nutrition Signs Stevie Zee!
This inspirational athlete refused to let Cerebral Palsy stop him from realizing his bodybuilding dreams
Lakewood, NJ September 8, 2008 ? Gaspari Nutrition is proud to announce the addition of Stevie Zee, a bodybuilder living with Cerebral Palsy, to its family of athletes.
Stevie first began training in December of 1992, needing direction after flunking out of community college and being unable to find work. He knew he needed to do something before depression and self-pity sent him down a dark hole he might never emerge from.
He soon met David Hughes, National-level Heavyweight bodybuilder, who took the witty novice under his wing and tutored him on the ways of training and nutrition. Stevie?s hopelessness started to melt away as his self-confidence grew along with his strength and muscle mass. He found the courage to leave his native Oregon and move to Hollywood to pursue his natural talents as a stand-up comic.
Stevie always dreamed of competing in a bodybuilding contest like his mentor David, but the limitations of his disease made it nearly impossible. Cerebral Palsy is a movement and posture disorder resulting from brain damage in the womb. Essentially, the nervous system can?t properly communicate with the muscles. Simply attempting to pose correctly was a daunting challenge to Stevie, as even walking and everyday tasks were already a struggle.
In June of 2003, Stevie took advantage of a medical breakthrough in CP treatment and had a special pump implanted in his abdominal wall that delivered the drug Baclofen directly into his spinal cord fluid. This drug minimized the extreme muscle spasms that had plagued Stevie all his life. Finally, the results of over a decade of training began to show. Stevie entered the 2006 Los Angeles Championships and received a standing ovation as well as a special ?Stevie Zee Inspirational Award? from Musclemag International magazine.
?I used to always ask, why me?? Stevie says. ?Now I know I was given Cerebral Palsy for a reason ? to inspire others to be a better person, and to make the most out of life no matter what.? He firmly believes it all comes down to how you look at things.

Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. They're primarily concerned with pushing their products. Not your safety or what's best for you.

This thread is a bit dated, but I've got an update from Stevie. He has recently has quite a bit of surgery on his legs and rehab has been hell, but he is one of the most determined guys I've ever met in my life.
They lengthened hishamstrings, moved his knee caps down (so he can get his legs straighter) and released his abductor (so he can stand straighter). He's already two inches taller. He was in a full length casts from his hips to his ankles for six weeks and then a soft cast for another six weeks. FINALLY Stevie is getting close to walking.
He intends to finish what he started, walking out as straight as possible on a bodybuilding stage to finish off his documentary. Dont take anything for granted in life, something as simple as walking is a tremendous task for others but Stevie will not be defeated.
