I put my set(powerblocks) at my dads townhouse while hes here visiting. Hes in love with them, every day he tells me how easy and fast they are to use. Normally all he has is a resistance band to use when he travels so I figure he'd love this and he does. I dont think Ill ever get to see them again unless I buy him a gym membership

I'm not very satisfied my my Ironmasters. They are about 5 of the 5 lb plates that are not machined correctly - no other plates will match up to them well enough for me to push in the side pins enough for me to have resistance when I first turn them, I have to pull the pin out slightly, then I turn them all the way to where the grooves line up again - then I'm back to square one and they won't turn after that. T
here are gaps in between the plates, and even when I hold the dumbell vertically and use gravity to set the plates sometimes that won't even work! It's way too time consuming either way. When some of the plates are against the dumbell handles, whenever I twist the pins the entire stack of plates will rotate slightly off the dumbell handle.
They made the tolerances way too lose IMO, and these plates are starting to piss me off. I'm within my 30 day period so I'll call them and see how it does.

Those are actually older Powerblocks. By the way, just saw a pair of 5 to 90 with a stand for $150. Hopefully I was first. The posting was exactly 15 mins, which is how long it takes for the posting to go up.

The Ironmaster's are great!
Space saving, and at a fraction of the cost of a set of pro style or hex dumbbells.
Compared to any fixed weight dumbbells they are cheap,
Compared to the competitors like power blocks or Nautilus they are cheap,
I could never go back to piss farting around with adjustable spin lock dumbbells.

I'm bumping this back up because I handled some PowerBlocks at Dick's Sporting Goods tonight and wasn't impressed. They were the 50lb set and everything clanged way too much and just didn't feel "quality" enough, not for the price. Plus the stand was a separate purchase.
IM gives more weight and the stand for less money, I would go with them over the blocs.

Ironmaster stuff
We'll, I've handled Powerblocks in stores and did not like the rattle. Most of the adjustable DB sets I see at Dick's or the Sports Authority seem the same way. I'm pretty much set on buying a set of IM's soon, AND getting the super bench to go along with 'em. Space and total weight are my biggest concern, as I'll likely be moving into a condo or townhouse soon.
Has anyone ever used the Titans?

I have both the ironmaster DB and superbench. I think the DB are great, except at first it takes a while to get used to changing the weights quickly. I've stopped doing pyramid sets so its less of a pain in the ass.
The bench I think is of very high quality, but the only thing is it is a little high off the ground for me. If I was a bit taller I would be more comfortable. Also, on incline DB press, the seat gets in the way of the db, so its harder to kick up into position.
But overall, I'm very happy with both.

Why do people say it only takes 10 seconds to change the weights? There's no way in hell you can change the weights of both DBs anywhere near 10 seconds, even with just adding 1 plate.
The time it takes doesn't bother me, but when people say it takes 10 seconds to change the weights are kidding themselves.
Also I've noticed that even with good plates, once you put about 70lbs on them, when you twist the locking screw it wants to twist the whole stack of weights rather than push the weights to the handles. You can have it as tight as you can make it, and just picking up the weights off the bench will make them jingle in looseness... pain in the ass. Hopefully these 22.5lb plates will help that.

I dont get everyones obsession with the rattle, anyone that has ever done a bench press has had the plates rattle, think of it as little bars.
If Im gonna shell out big bucks, then the sumbitches need to be fast or otherwise, spinlocks seems to work just fine and are el cheapo.
Here is a link to some previous discussion on the titans, the first two posts are almost without a doubt to company reps doing a good guy bad guy dance.

They seem to be just like Powerblocks but instead of the pins, they have that little selector dial. What happens if that dial breaks? Also, $699 for 65lbs w/stand. Ironmasters are only $489 for 75 lbs with stand and they don't have any plastic dials.
Just to touch on the time to change plates. I can change all 4 sides of both dumbbells in about 1 minute.

I have a full set of Powerblocks, which has costed me $1200--Yeah, I'm nuts for paying that dear a price, and still I wouldn't mind that much IF I didn't have to worry about rusting !!!
Yesterday, I was about to apply a coat of Armor All to them, and musch to my surprise and dismay, I found rusting at the spot welds--most block have some.
I mean, rusting on a plain steel surface like on the sides of any of the block wouldn't be a problem, but it's neither a good thing for welds to go rusty and neither acceptable for the price I paid. Of course, they're not about to break down in a month's time from now, but still, I'm sure many of you will get my point on this problem.
Of course, I could make use of a brush, remove the surface rust and them apply some paint, but my point is, I shouldn't even have to bother doing any of this for the price I paid. While the system is nice and quick, all of the fitness gear we discuss on here is most of the time way way way overpriced.
At $1200 a set, I still have to worry about rusting !!!!?? Damn it ! just wanted to add that my Powerblock set isn't in a high humidity environment. Humidity level is same downstairs as it is downstairs, because of the air exchanger.Last edited by chipdouglas; 01-18-2009 at 09:29 AM.

They are painted metal. If that paint gets scratched and that bare metal gets exposed, Mother Nature gets to work. Any exposed steel will rust eventually. I would just wire brush off the surface rust and touch it up with some paint. That should stop or slow the process.
I understand your frustration though. Rust on my $1200 dumbbells. SON OF A ...!!!![]---[] Equipment Crew Member No.19

Sorry had to bump this I'm considering keeping both too but I'm still undecided. I used the Ironmasters for the first time last night. I have a pair of Powerblock Pros too that I recently picked up. The biggest issue I have with the Ironmasters (aside from the some of the plates not matching up and some of them being scraped up brand new) is the balance is not nearly as nice as with the Powerblocks. Also, I think the time to change weights would eventually annoy me (it didn't in this case because I was using Powerblocks on every other set).
I read some old threads about the Powerblocks being better balanced and better for the wrists and forearms when using heavier weight. Is there any truth to this? Unfortunately, my hands are really big and this presents a problem for me with the Powerblock Pros when using heavier weight. The newer model Sport Powerblocks fit my hand much better so for me it comes down to two options:
1) Keep the Ironmasters and the Powerblock Pros or
2) Return the Ironmasters, sell the Pros, and buy the 90lb Powerblock Sport 9.0s
So what do you guys think would be the better option?
