At $600, I think the price is pretty steep for PowerBlocks...I dont think they even cost a lot to make, its just slices of square metal weights they add on the end. Very expensive for what you get.
You could get the IronMaster 120lb kit for around $650 or so new...
Or you could get a bunch of 10lb plates and stick them on spindles; they wouldnt cost more than about $400 for 240lbs and the spindles.

Ok another question,
I've been seeing this guy post a lot of ads.
The only problem is his store is about 50+ miles away from me.
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/spo/771967347.html
Its like a second hand equipment store, my only worry is it will be overpriced, and I will end up spending $30 on gas, taking the truck down there.
Also can anyone tell if this is Olympic or Standard? And comment on the price, seems too much.

he claims he paid $3000 shipped???
He still hasn't responded, but here is the link.
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/for/763202817.html
ok he's still go it
he wants 1200
I figure NEW
$750 for the PowerTec Rack System + 200-300 for the bench (don't need) +100-150 for the weights + 60 for DB bars
thats say $1100-1200 for his gear, NEW
although he states its "perfect condition" its not new. So would $850 be a lowball? or a reasonable offer.
or should I offer even less?Last edited by konradac; 07-27-2008 at 07:32 PM.

That guy is a liar. Here's the itemized price breakdown:rack $200,lat attachment $200,bench $100,plates $100,plate rack $35,Db's $20.That's about $650 individually,$550 for a package,so offer $500.I'm pretty sure he won't sell it for what it's really worth considering he's asking more than he paid and claims he paid 3X what it cost.

Thanks for the replies guys. I picked up an olympic set today for $100.
As for the rack.
I sent him an offer of $850, here is what I got back.
"Hey Konrad, we are pretty firm on the price. Once you see it, you will understand, it's an awesome deal, really. Let me know if you'd like to come and check it out. Thanks!"
As for the price breakdown, a new PowerTec Rack System from BB.com is $750.
So whatever, screw em I'll keep looking. There is an e-bay auction with a similar setup. But its in Arizona (yikes) I wonder if it would be worth my while road tripping out to get it, or maybe eating up a big shipping fee?

That only goes for new sets, not used.
There was a guy this morning selling Ivanko hole grip plates for $1 per pound. He had 6 45s and 4 25s. Where the hell was he when I was trying to make up my mind between the Hamptons and Ivankos?! Now, I'm too far deep with the Hamptons. I have 845lbs of Hamptons and I can't go back. I would like to even that # out to 1000lb, just in case they discontinue my plates.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No.2

I tend to regret the ones that got away (like the trap bar DiamondDelts beat me to last week ;-) but now that I think about it, CL has been very, very good to me:
Hex dumbbell pairs 15-50 lbs, 5 lb increments and flat bench: $110
Power line seated calf: $35
Power line hyperextension: $25
Nordic track Pro Plus skier: Free
Pro style dumbbell pairs, 5-50 lbs, 5 lb increments: $100
345 lbs Cap olympic weights and bar: $75
Chest Supported row: $10
Buckeye barbell leg press: Free
Weider 565 squat rack, olympic bar and FID bench: $50
Safety squat bar: $40When I start getting too full of myself, I try to remember that somewhere in China an 11-year-old girl is warming up with my 1RM.

Greetings...
Greetings from E. Tennessee. Been poking around here for a while so I thought I would join.
Been working out around 25 years. I am 40 now and a geezer. I am building my home gym a few pieces at a time. Finding a used Power Cage/Rack is tough around here. Scored some good weights and and old school Gold's Gym bench with squat rack for 75 bux. Came with long bar, 300lbs, weight stand, and the bench that inclines and has adjustable posts. Thing is heavy duty..probably made in the 80's. Got it from an Ex Marine. I also got a PowerTec(older one) utility bench with leg attachment and 180lbs of brand new weight for 120.00 Also scored some almost new Bowflex dumbbells that got up to 52lbs. (pretty slick). I have a good elliptical but want something that has the lat and rows. I know I can do bent over rows, but I also like lat pull downs (hit the eccentric on those and the cobra comes out). There is a Powertec machine on Craigslist. Says it is 4 years old and comes with weights. Lady is on vacation right now but says she will be back this weekend. It also comes with some more weights. I am pondering getting it or getting the Powertec rack from this site. The link is below. I would have to rent a truck and it is about 1.5 hours away.
Look forward to chatting with everyone. 25 years experience, 10 of which professional strength and rehab trainer.
I am now not lifting heavy any more as my joints are too worn from the previous heavy years. Just focusing on being fit, tight, slightly bulky, FLEXIBLE and endurance galore. Had a few injuries, latest is a bulging cervical disk that I am teetering about having replaced with a steel one. Neurologist says my call. Been taking some steroids and NSAIDS to keep the discomfort at bay.
Coming up is WW Kayaking with my sons. Need to really get my core tight and strong.
Thanks for any insights...
Seems like yesterday, I was bulletproof... LOL
Here is the Powertec equipment. Is there any difference with this one (4 years old) and a new one?
