    **** bro, down 6 lbs??!?!! this is from day 1??

    do you think you're leaning out more due to the fact the carb bloat isn't prominent?

    how does this caloric intake compare to what you were previously doing (just in terms of overall cals taken in)?

    I think I can become fat adapted just fine the way I'm doing it... if not theres +300g of fat going to waste each day, lol...

    Because I'm running out and I haven't ordered anymore yet... I'm trying to make them last as long as possible. Normally I would take them with each meal.

    Yep, down 6lbs from day 1. Its definately due to less carb bloat, and some water as well. I've leaned up alot already. I'm going to take some pictures this weekend... there should be a noticable difference.

    I was taking in about 4,000 cals before... so I've raised it a few hundred calories since starting this diet. My goal was 3,800, but I've been too hungry to just eat that much. One of the points in the ebook was to eat when you're hungry, so I don't feel like its a big deal to do so. The BWx18 calculation for maintenance is obviously a bit off the mark for my metabolism.

    I drank 12 oz of 1% milk split up between 6-7 meals.

    Sure... as long as you lower your overall calories you can still drink milk while leaning up.

    According to CalorieKing 1 egg has 0.2g of carbs... and it adds it all up for me. Even if it didn't, I'm not worried about an extra carb here or there... as long as my total stays down close to 40g/day I'm happy.

    I think the 2nd day was the worst... the headaches/bodyaches were pretty bad. Yesterday and today sucked because I had a cold... I'm not sure if it has anything to do with AD or not though...

    Thumbs up

    Day 4 - 7/17/08

    Weight = 208 (-6lbs)

    Meal #1
    8 oz Ground Turkey 85/15
    1 oz Colby Jack cheese
    4 oz 2% Milk
    2 tabs Uni-Liver
    Totals = 46g fat, 53.5g protein, 6.5g carbs, 668 cals

    Meal #2
    6 oz Chunk Light Tuna in Oil
    2 cups mixed greens
    2 tbsp Caesar dressing
    1 oz Colby Jack cheese
    Totals = 43g fat, 47g protein, 3.5g carbs, 604 cals

    Meal #3 (PWO)
    2 scoops whey protein
    4 oz heavy whipping cream
    Totals = 44g fat, 52g protein, 4g carbs, 814 cals

    Meal #4
    8 oz ground beef 80/20
    2 slices swiss cheese
    Totals = 57g fat, 50.5g protein, 2g carbs, 729 cals

    Meal #5
    8 oz ground beef 80/20
    2 slices swiss cheese
    Totals = 57g fat, 50.5g protein, 2g carbs, 729 cals

    Meal #6
    8 oz 2% Milk
    4 oz heavy whipping cream
    1 scoop Milk & Egg protein powder
    1 scoop whey protein
    2 tbsp Naturally More Peanut Butter
    1 ANIMAL Omega
    2 tabs Uni-Liver
    Totals = 64.5g fat, 71g protein, 22g carbs, 1079 cals

    Water Intake = 1.5 gallons

    Daily Totals = 310.5gfat, 324.5g protein, 40g carbs, 4624 cals

    Thoughts: A good day food-wise... although I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate more veggies into my diet. I'm still a little high on calories, but I think my initial goal of 3800 was just too low... anything below 4000 is probably going to cause me to lose weight. I'm still happy with my results so far... no carb bloat and I'm noticably leaner... hopefully progress pics will show the difference.

    I too got a few odd colds when starting , but never felt better and not ONE since starting keto 5 months ago or so ..

    Kill yourself in the gym after the carb up ..

    and look into supercompensation pre-carbUp ala CKD style for the heck of it ..
    I dont think AD preaches that aspect but would be nice for you

    Hey Hola Bola!

    I'm in and subbed, damn thats a lot of food! Makes me wonder whether I should be upping my own calories. (~2K)

    Not sure where you're eating. But you can pick up a big ass bag of Broccoli from costco, and just toss it in a Tupperware. Then just munch on a handful with every meal.

    Anyway, can't wait to see results.

    Couple of observations. About half your carbs are in your last meal of the day. Is that by design? For all I know, that's just what you want. But from my (very limited) exposure to low-carb diets, most of what I've read places the "big" carbs (as if 20g were big) either in the first meal or in the PWO shake (for "targetted carbs"). Also, the heavy cream with the PWO shake will slow down the absorption of nutrients. Now, this isn't a big issue prob since there are no carbs in your PWO shake--you're not trying to deliver carbs to glycogen-depleted muscles. But it will slow down the absorption of the whey, too.

Dr. Di Pasquale, author of the Anabolic Diet, said in an Interview on Testosterone Nation: ?Staying in a ketogenic state means you haven?t adapted to the diet. Someone using fat for fuel shouldn?t have ketones in their urine.[..] Ketosis is very catabolic.

    Thoughts?
    Here is what the book says. Right now I got my son following a modded Atkins diet ( and I wasn't aware of it until now), he is a type 1 diabetic, so it makes more sense to me now!

    "Low carbohydrates diets such as the Atkins Diet and other strictly ketogenic are great for loosing body weight and dealing with some health issues such as glucose resistance and diabetes. However, long term strictly ketogenic diet tend to result in decrease muscle mass. That is because they don't allow alternating periods of lower and higher carb days. These alternating periods allow for favorable changes in the anabolic and fat burning hormones"

    Not sure where you're eating. But you can pick up a big ass bag of Broccoli from costco, and just toss it in a Tupperware. Then just munch on a handful with every meal.

    Anyway, can't wait to see results.
    2,000 cals sure isn't alot of food... I don't think I could ever get that low, even for contest prep.

    The broccoli suggestion sounds great... thanks!

    I think the original book is the one that says 5 days... I believe it was revised and the 12 day thing was added to make people become fat adapted quicker. I've actually decided to just stick with the 5 day thing and start my carb-up tomorrow. I don't care if it takes a couple weeks to get fully adapted... I've heard the crash around day 8-10 is pretty bad if you try for 12 in a row. Plus, I'm worried my workouts will start to suffer the further I go without carbs.

    Yep, its by design. Here's a quote from the ebook explaining it...

    WHEN TO EAT CARBS
    A real question that comes into play on the high fat portion of the Anabolic Diet is when to eat your carbs during the day. Some people spread them out. Others get most of them in one meal. Again, the answer has to do with personal preference. You can eat your carbs at any time of day and it won?t matter, as long as you don?t go above the 30 gram carb limit. But many bodybuilders find eating their carbs throughout the day makes them hungrier and lazier. They?ll feel sluggish. They get that ?turkey dinner syndrome? where they finish and all they feel like doing is heading for the couch. This is not good, especially for the bodybuilder who may train during the day and find his motivation affected.
    It also presents a real problem that goes beyond bodybuilding and training. Some people think that our eating patterns have become counterproductive in modern society. The average person eats a lot of carbs during the day, and the insulin and serotonin responses we talked about earlier can become very pronounced. At times of the day when we need to be productive and alert, in the early afternoon for instance, we?ll be sleepy and lethargic from all those carbs. Wouldn?t it be better to save the carbs for the night? That?s what many bodybuilders do on the Anabolic Diet. They?ll keep the carbs minimum during the day and find their energy levels much increased as a result. Then they?ll come home at night and have the bulk of their carbs with dinner. The carbs at dinner will find them unwinding in the evening hours, relaxing and sleeping like a baby at night.
