7min is good for the average speed people .... but if your doing it for a sport remember sports like football, and baseball don't ever require long distance so just throwing that out there.

Very interesting thread.
Great to see people running so fast and keeping the cardio up.
I will give anyone who ALREADY posted in this thread their choice of any Anabolic Innovations product if they can do the following, which based on the posts above should be pretty easy
There are at least 3 guys here who said they can meet these numbers.
If you weigh under 200lbs run a sub 5:05 min mile
Over 200lbs run a sub 7 min mile
Has to be video taped showing the stop watch and you running, and you must video tape yourself on a beam scale showing your weight.
Have at it and best of luck!

if you consider yourself an athlete and play in a speed sport... its bad... unless you are a "big" person.
For our football program we have to run under a 6 minute mile to get an award along with other strength/endurance tests....
we usually have a few fullbacks/Defensive ends/linebackers complete it... but thats BARELY..
our dbs rape it tho.. 5 mins was the best and most db/wr ran 530ish"Stuff your sorries in a sack bro."

Umm yes... having good endurance is extremely important in football. It helps with not dying out and getting tired. Even though the running is explosive running, there is so much of it that having good endurance really helps.
And everyone else is saying times so here is where i've been:
age:
12 - 5:19 (I was pretty damn skinny)
14 - 5:41 (I gained 30lbs from when i was 12)
17 - 6:10ish (I gained like 45-50lbs since 14)
18 - 5:36 (I leaned out and dropped 10-12lbs)
Mine was all just running endurance miles in track practice to help me out in Sprinting/hurdling.

I never said anything about endurance. Of course you have to have endurance in any sport but if you just run miles for explosive sports you aren't training smart. You can do short sprints which replicate what you do in games and increase your endurance. The problem with running distance is you run at a steady pace which never occurs in a sport like football.

Yea, this is true, since after the first mile you have exponentially less energy and more fatigue to work with after every step you take so typically the second mile would be a much slower time than the first, and the third would be an even slower time so it's not just dividing the time by 3.
Also in high school, the barely passing grade for males in the 1-mile run was 10 minutes so I guess that's about average? I'm not sure how they made those standards

Interesting
When I was in the Army I was turning out 2 miles in about 11:15. That was about 10 years ago. I only did it because it was required during our mandatory PT sessions. I got ZERO enjoyment out of it. As a matter of fact, it made it harder for me to gain lean muscle mass because of all the cardio I was doing. I have since changed my approach. Interval training is the way to go. Some of the benefits..... It takes less time..... Can dramatically increase your endurance over a shorter period of time..... etc..... etc..... I still run on a regular basis, but I change up my routine often..... Just my two cents.

7 minute mile is pretty good. It's not great for people who run a lot or for those who run track. In terms of the majority of the US, it's faster than the average person. Most people can't run a mile at 7 minutes. Sports athletes and obviously those who run a lot will claim to run it much faster, which is the typical response, because many of this forum are full of it. If you can break the 6 minute barrier and run in the 5's then you are doing extremely well. Track guys run low 5's to just under. So, comparatively most can't break 6 minutes unless they are in middle school and weigh as much as a twig or who are in their best shape of their life. Big guys who weigh 220 and are full of muscle, the majority of them can not run under 7 minutes period. Most muscle heads don't run much and focus on strength training. Any gym rat knows this, exceptions are made of course.
