Every so often my kid has been having problem with getting hit in the shoulder and straining a joint in the back of the shoulder which then takes him out of commission to lift heavy and takes a while to heal.
For anyone who has issues with this or knew somebody that did....is there something you can where along with the pad to give a little added protection?

They started making under armour like shirts with built in padding on places like the shoulder. I would try something like this

You feel weak and when you feel weak you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
and just pull that s*** out of you and get that motivation to not give up
and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse." -Eminem

I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like an infantile retard." -Mike Tyson

it can also be worn on two shoulders at the same time. i think i'm going to buy this one for the season. I'm really trying to find this really popular shoulder brace that I see on NFL players and NCAA football players. I've been trying to find it online but no luck. I'm probably going to call or visit one of the local D1 schools and ask their trainer what shoulder braces they recommend to the football players with shoulder issues because my team's trainer doesn't know the name of it. If I find out, I'll relay here but so far I'm leaning towards getting the Cadlow shoulder stabilzer. I've heard that neoprene braces are suspect.

had a hurt shoulder my senior year and it really sucked. wore the pads "SIP" or skeleton pads. i think it is exactly what you are looking for. There was very minimal loss of motion and since he is a DE like me it wont affect him too much. Really added extra padding and was very good to my shoudler.

Bumping this for more information as I will need to order this pretty soon.
His shoulder is not hurt right now......so I dont think the harness is necessary.....but what is the "SIP" on top of that? What does that abbreviation stand for? That looks like something he could wear under his pads without too much restriction to perhaps prevent it from happening in the future.
And where do I get it?
Thanks in advance.

S.I.P stands for Shoulder Injury Pad. It is made specifically to reduce the damage the shoulders sustain during contact. They are available in nearly all major sporting goods stores.

I was at a football camp and a running back had one of these that connected to his shoulder pads. It kept him from moving his shoulder too much.

check this one out. it's made to not restrict motion, it secures to a harness you wear around your chest (like suspenders) and some shorts that you wear under your football pants (like sweats). it's not bulky and it can also be used during shoulder rehab programs. if you add up all the factors that a shoulder brace should have, this one has all of the necessary factors the others have and then some.
