You really don't need carbs for your PWO, the protein only shake will elicit enough insulin to do the job. There are some advantages to no carbs PWO, protein only shakes will also elicit the glucagon hormone. This hormone gets secreted when protein is digested, this hormone liberates fatty acids to help bring blood sugar up. So the body is well adapted to use protein only PWO shakes. If you are doing keto, I would suggest Vince Gironda's Heavy Cream and egg protein shake, you will love the effects of this PWO. The fat in the PWO will also protect the protein from being converted to glucose.

    +1

That is what I do down to the hour till another fatty meal. Fat slows protein synthesis down a lot. The dextrose is absorbed very quickly and you will be back in ketosis in no time.

The dextrose is also the best sugar to get your insulin levels spiking, as far as I know. Great for muscle recovery.

Dextrose doesn't help with muscle recovery directly.

It HELPS the protein get to the muscles faster so that the PROTEIN can help repair and rebuild the muscle...it's not the dextrose that does it.

You don't need dextrose at all, the amino acids in the protein will elicit enough insulin to get the job done.
