Basically, right after Christmas, I started jumping rope outside in a yard. I would do it EVERY day, it was a 4lb Weighted Rope, and I did 6 sets of 50 reps. After about the 10th or 11th consecutive day, I noticed real bad back pain. I took a day off, it healed a bit, then tried another session of jump rope. My lower back hurt again.
My guess is that my technique is off, OR the weighted rope is having a worse effect than an unweighted rope. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem besides doing another form of cardio?
With the weighted jump rope, I actually felt like it cut my body into a tighter form. I heard that when men jump rope, they jump crooked. Could this be why I'm getting lower back pain? It felt like my hip was being disconnected...

My guess is that it is just the repetative stress of doing something new EVERY day, before you conditioned your body to be use to it. Your core strength probably wasn't up to handling it.
Once you are fully healed, start adding it back in slowly this time. If you still have issues, then it's a technique issue.

Have used weighted ropes before but with no back pain. But I also wasn't doing it everyday either. Now, I do jump 5-6 days a week, before weight lifting and a bit after, and my hops are there. I know 500 is the min I do and am pretty sure I have gotten close to the 1000 mark before..... and fast too!!!! Simple basic 2 legs and running in place work for me.
