I have always wondered which is better, a short torso, like arnold, frank zane
or like Flex wheeler, kevin levrone, cormier, which is most beneficial for bodybuilding?

Traditionally short torsos win sandows because the upper body looks thicker and more robust and the lats appear longer.
Though long torsos accentuate width. Just depends on what look you like personally. But there is no question what build takes the no. 1 spots.

Don't short torsos make the person "high-waisted" and, therefore, cause a larger waist? There is less space between the ribcage and the hips.

I'm still more inclined to agree with DD (no nut hug). Some people with shorter torsos and WIDE WAISTS are plagued with something they can almost never correct. You can build up the medial delts and get wider, but still.Originally Posted by yzrider400f
I'd much rather have a longer body and just continue to fill out the upper body and quad sweep. If the waist is wide and blocky, then you're kind of screwed. There's no question that if your waist is tended to though, you'll look a lot more powerful and heavily muscles with a bit of a shorter torso. It's all comes down to a coin toss really.

Definatly short. I think it hurts Dennis Wolf a lot having that long torso. It makes it look like theres a huge area of the body that has almost no muscle. I wish I had a short torso, unfortunatly, im 6'6''

as long as there is muscular balance it doesnt really matter. but the short torsos look much thicker

Ehh I think each can be good. I think Haney, Yates, and Cutler are all on the longer side. Arnold and Ronnie are on the short side.
Oddly enough "short" torso are actually a characteristic of ectomorphs.

well said, yes they seem to be. if you look at say lee preist he has a very lonnngggg torso with average sized ribcage. if he never worked out you could imagine he wouldnt have been a Very big guy, quite ecto looking with very tiny joints etc.

This question has an answer as definitive as this one....
Which is better for bodybuilding....a short bicep or a long bicep?
clearly the answer cannot be quantified by these two variables alone.
As far as yout torso comment is concerned it realy boils down to what the muscles surrounding the torso are doing.
Classic case of Long vs short...was RONNIE vs FLEX WHEELER 1999 Olympia.
