What are good calf workouts not using machines? I plan to work out my calves a lot and I can't always go to the gym so are there any workouts I can use using freeweights that work the calves?
I know biking and running is one of them but I am bulking right now and cardio is the last thing I want to do.

I like to get in the squat rack.
Load the bar up with weight. I usually don't go heavier then say 375.
Stand up on your toes and feel that good squeeze in your calves. Certain reps feels like a damn knife stabbing me.
On each rep I stand up on my tippy toes for a count of 3-4. I usually aim for 15-20 reps. The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and hear all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds. ~Henry Rollins
