Gym Owner's Comments...

The owner of my gym (who was once a competitive BBer) was next to me on the treadmill after I had finished a leg workout and he said "What the fuk is up with all the grunting?" Then his fiance who once made comments to me before said mockingly "Oh he's lifting heavy weights now so he feels like he HAS to grunt." Then they laughed. I kinda shrugged it off but its just been on my mind. The owner says that if you're grunting then you aren't breathing right but I just see it if you're getting those last few reps in, who cares?

I like the gym where I'm at because there is nearly never anyone in it and it is right around the corner from my house but I feel as if I want to go join another gym...The commute sucks though

Any advice?

pretty sure it is dawg. just breath loudly, for me at least I have to put thought into it for me to grunt.

Just tell em. Fck u. Flick em off, the the weight, moon em... Idk... I'd do somin of that nature or around there.

If the gym is that close to you and not a lot of people there than just shrug it off. If he wants to be a douche let him you aren't there to be his buddy

weigh the pros and cons (I'm thinking you should stay there)

**** it dude grunt your ass off. in 8th grade i was doing martial arts and all my teachers taught us to vocalize our breathe during strikes they said it helps exert more energy from your core or something im not sure what exactly but i feel more powerful when i grunt. has helped me get the last few reps out many times.

Dont yell like your getting analy penitrated, then again its okay to grunt on big heavy lifts. Ask him if he was serious, or if he was just joking around. If he was serious find a new gym or stop grunting. If he was joking around just be like okay haha, just making sure.

I also find it a little ridiculous because he was once a competitive BBer and I'm sure he's grunted more than a few times. If I grunt it's just like a low one and at least I don't think I'm Ronnie when I'm in there. If I grunt it may be like when Dorian grunts. He's just way more intense.

I grunt all the time.

I finally discovered how great grunting is like last week. Put up 225 for 5 reps on the shoulder press the other day as well.

scream during deadlifts and pretty much just make the biggest ass of urself when hes around

haha ya, i recently learned how much grunting can help. i was always pretty quiet when i lifted, but during hard leg workouts, i started getting louder and it helped me put up a hell of alot more weight

honestly, gym grunter is horrible gym etiquette, especially now that most places are fitness centers and not gyms, but seriously not trying to sound like a tool, but it's very annoying to other people, 2 guys at my gym do it, makes me so mad and annoyed

oh yeah, forgot to mention, grunting probably helps because you're doing what a lot of people forget to do while heavy lifting...breath!...so just remember to breath and it won't be a big difference from grunting

No difference between grunting and breathing out calmly imo. Might be different for some people. Grunting does kinda irritate me, but in reality I have my head phones in I can't really hear **** when I'm working out anyways.
