A University of Massachusetts student fell to his death from his 17th-story dorm room early this morning.

Liam O'Donnelly, 20, a second-year student from Hingham, Mass., fell to the pavement below his room in 1704 John Quincy Adams Tower at approximately 3:30 a.m., according to UMass spokesman Ed Blaguszewski.

The investigation is ongoing and will be carried out by the Massachusetts State Police. They do not suspect foul play at this time.

Gregory Freeburn, a resident of the floor, said the sound of police gathering near the scene woke him up. He said O'Donnelly, who lived alone in a single, largely kept to himself and was a quiet person.

Nicole Kadey, who also lives on O'Donnelly's floor, said she did not believe the news at first. When she saw police arriving in the parking lot outside yelling, "Get your first aid kits," she said it shocked her.

Students on the floor also said they saw caution tape over the door to his room.

"This is a difficult time for the campus community. Our sincere condolences go out to Liam's family and friends," said Blaguszewski.

A JQA community meeting will be held at 4:30 this afternoon. Representatives from the dean of students, mental health services, the UMass Police Department and residential life will be present to share information about the student death and provide resources.

My younger brother was going to go there or Plymouth State next year but chose the latter. Sucks man sorry. We had a girl fall out of the 7th floor to her death my freshman year up at UNH.

It's sad. At almost every big school there are a handful of dorms where kids have died tragically.

My sophomore year I lived in a dorm in which the year before a student had jumped off the roof, and a few years before that a guy fell down the elevator shaft

Oh my god man.. INSANE game.

I didn't study for my exam today... at all. And BARELY finished my Exercise Physiology lab that was due today.

If T Ford leaves for LSU, I'll be so pissed.

I LOL'd when Bonner fatigued during the first half... and when Tony Gaffney & Etienne kept pushing the ball downcourt in the 2nd half with 5 mins to go. they should've slowed that **** up.

...anyhow, I'm home for tonight. gtg - coming back to umass tomorrow.

The tallest dorm complex in UCSD is only 10 stories

The tallest structure in UCSD has something of around 11 floors above ground

Anyway, this is quite the creepy and tragic event. You can inevitably expect people are going to be looming over ghost stories and the like in upcoming years

2 years prior to my arrival upon UMass' campus.. kids used to surf the elevator shafts...

Well, it was that year (2 years prior to my arrival) that two adjacent elevators (4 & 5) in the John Adams tower grew too far apart and 4 kept going up, and up... to floor 22 while 5 went all the way down to ground.

...kid was instantly killed (crushed) by elevator #4.

...to this day, swear to god... elevator 4 ALWAYS breaks constantly in John Adams during fall semester! I **** you not. Visit UMass Amherst. All 3 years I was in that god ****ing building... Always took 5, or 6.

4 & 5 only stopped on Odd #'d floors while 6 goes to every floor.

...h'mmm this past summer I know one of the library elevators fell 6 stories... even though our library is what?... 26 or 27 floors high?

I LOL'd when Bonner fatigued during the first half... and when Tony Gaffney & Etienne kept pushing the ball downcourt in the 2nd half with 5 mins to go. they should've slowed that **** up.

...anyhow, I'm home for tonight. gtg - coming back to umass tomorrow.
Haha nice dude I am right in Sylvan.

TFord won't leave for LSU I know this

He should have stopped full court pressing, too many easy lay-ups for them.

    Hobart is nice.

I don't like the Town Houses.

I actually have a lot of freshman and Sophomore friends in Sylvan.

A lot of my buddies are @ Rolling Green, the Boulders, Alpine, Route 9, N Pleasant & E Pleasant... and of course puffton.

I'm probably the only one still on campus. Heh. It's too convenient + I have scholarships. Free. <~ Key Word.

y'know.. it used to be that sylvan was where the nuts went... but now I don't know anymore.

It seems I find more and more in Northeast & part of Central.. and most of O Hill than in Sylvan.

...and then you find the idiots in southwest.

Suicide is a terrible thing As a sufferer of depression, I can tell you, for someone to actually take their life like that, they must have really been at the end of their rope and feeling quite alone. Sad...
