If you have a balanced diet and can eat the foods you like in moderation -- it's not a cheat...it's called a regular day of eating. These days cheat = binge.

These days people seem to mistake cheat days for junk food binge days where everything goes..
Next time I cheat I'm having an extra large quiznos, apple and cinnamon oatmeal and some mixed fruit in yoghurt.

binging on crap most certainly sets me back, so i've stopped it. i totally agree with the posts above about re-feeds as well. i used to have a cheat day, then i cut back to cheat meal, and now i'm trying to simply refeed. if i have a bad meal, it's no reason to go blow the rest of the day and call it a cheat day. mentally you'll feel significant guilt all week after a cheat day, and it will set u back in achieving your goals.
do everything in moderation.vegetable-based protein ftw

I cheat, binge, whatever you call it every Sunday... I usually eat 4 or so meals of whatever I want (fast food, pizza, ice cream sundaes, cake, whatever). I do it because I love the taste of all that food and it gives me something to look forward to all week. Plus I do it because on Sunday's I'm usually hungover like a mofo, lol.

I personally don't understand the whole cheat thing. After all, your only cheating yourself. It seems that it causes more people stress than anything else. The last time I "cheated", I felt like **** both mentally and physically (mainly physically) for a couple days. Does it make sense to work hard for 6 days a week... then set yourself back on the last day, only to realize that you feel like crap afterwards?
After eating healthy for a couple of years, I have noticed that I don't crave unhealthy food at all anymore. So there's really no temptation to cheat myself.

I do it because I want to...I enjoy drinking with my friends on Saturday nights and then eating bad on Sundays....do I need any other reason?

They aren't necessary physically...you can get the same benefits from an excess of clean foods (a refeed). However, I think a cheat meal is beneficial if you're struggling mentally and are apt to have a binge if you don't treat yourself to something small once a week. I'm planning on having one cheat meal every two weeks rather than a whole day or two of eating what I want every 2-3 months. But a cheat MEAL is just that...one MEAL. There's really no benefit to having a huge binge day. You only have a 3500 calorie deficit, it's not hard to eat that.

Personally I work out for cheat meals. I usually dont have a cheat day. I generally watch what I eat calorie wise and dont consider a meal cheating unless the calories is really high. A cup of ice cream is not cheating if I maintain my daily calories. I usually have 2-3 cheat meals a weeks.
My last cheat meal was a chuck e cheese salad followed by a large meat lovers pizza. 2 slices from eating the whole pizza. Felt like crap(physically not mentally) for the next 2 days, but it was worth it.

It also depends what you consider a cheat meal. I've been on a mostly clean bulk for about a year, so I eat lots of calories to begin with (About 5,000/Day). If I went to Atlantic City and ate a 2,500 calorie buffet meal consisting of steak, chicken breast, potatoes and so on, I wouldn't consider that a cheat meal at all. Those are the foods I normally eat anyway. A cheat meal to me is McDonald's, Burger King, Arby's, fast food, Chinese buffet, pizza, etc... alcohol. Those are the kinds of things that set me back both mentally and physically. It all depends on what your goals are, and how serious you are about them.

i agree, im on a clean bulk as well, even when dining out you can find good options.. neaerly anywhere you go will have a chicken/steak meal that comes with a side of veg and some decent carb source like a potato or rice,
if I did decide to cheat i would just add something extra to my meals clean to keep me satisfied a bit more, knowing that i would go all out and binge on some junk like fast food or something would make me sick for days and just push me way back ( from my perspective)
