I recently saw a posting from this anonymous clown that stated that Flex Wheeler's kidney failure was caused by anabolic steroid abuse. Why do ill informed morons make comments like this? Did Alonzo Mourning and Sean Elliot also have FSGS from abusing anabolic steroids? No! It is ONLY the "word" of these dolt who won't even post his name. I also had FSGS and according to the best kidney specialists in the US, FSGS can NOT be caused by the use or "abuse" of anabolic steroids. BTW, Dan Duchaine's renal failure was a congenital condition. Dan was a good friend or mine. I post my real name. Robert Schuh.

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but high blood pressure can lead to nephritis and ultimately kidney failure. Hypertension is one of the LEADING causes of kidney failure... oh and African Americans are 6 times more likely to suffer from kidney failure because of hypertension than a caucasian. And if you don't think that Flex's blood pressure wasn't through the damn roof because of the assortment of drugs he was on, you're out of your mind.
Am I saying the drugs causing his increased blood pressure was the cause for his kidney failure? No. I'm not his doctor, so I wouldn't know the real cause. But if you don't think it CONTRIBUTED to his kidney failure, then you're just being naive.

I suggest that you look up FSGS and learn about the disease. High BP can NOR cause FSGS. Read what you are looking at the next time. Just spouting unrelated stats mean nothing. I've had some of the top nephrologists in the world work on my case and every one has agreed. Your assumption that Flex's BP had to be elevated is also flawed. Please get facts before making comments. How about a diagnosis in Duchaine too? He had Polycystic Kidney Disease and his BP was under control. Would you like to make a non factual diagnosis on him too?

FSGS is only congenital in children. No one has come up with a diagnosis of FSGS being congential in adults. It is 100% idiopathic in these cases. The only cases that they know the causation for FSGS in adults is in the IV heroin and ******* abusing population. Neither Flex, myself, Sean Elliot nor Alonzo Mourning had any history of that. If anything, anabolic steroids would mask the condition by keeping the red blood cell elevated.

First off, I never knew which kidney condition Flex "had." I put that in quotes because until I see proof in the form of medical records that Flex had FSGS, I'm putting that right there up with he was attacked by ninjas.
You are correct that I assumed he didn't have his BP under control. He could have been taking meds for it. Again, you're assuming that he DID have his BP under control, so since you made THAT assumption, then I thought it was fair that I make MY assumption (oh unless of course you personally know Flex... then maybe you can tell us about the ninjas).
I'm not commenting on anyone else because honestly I don't know who those guys are.

I've exchanged numerous e mails with Flex, so while I've not met him in person, I do know his condition. I, along with Flex, Alonzo Mourning and others with FSGS have been looking into it on our own, so I had numerous ?s for Flex when I first contacted him. So far, FSGS has been idiopathic in this population, late 20s to early 30s athletic black males, but it has been increasing in it's frequency. I'm not black, so my MDs have been even more stumped. Why would I lie about which condition Flex had? I've been around BBing since 1975, have worked hand in hand with Dan Duchaine and others training pro BBers and have written for several publications, so I don't post bull**** unless I'm joking. :-)

I'm not saying YOU lied about Flex's condition. I was suggesting that Flex said he had FSGS to explain his kidney failure instead of saying the drugs contributed to it via hypertension. I'M NOT SAYING that the reason for Flex's kidney failure was because of the drugs/hypertension, and I'M NOT SAYING that Flex doesn't have FSGS. Only Flex and his doctor know that, and since I'm neither, I can only speculate.

Oh dude, there can be many reasons. One could be better treatment for those with the condition allowing them to live longer and better thus allowing them more of a chance to reproduce.
Also, population stratification, assortive mating, and consanguineous mating could all increase the number of affected individuals in a population with a genetic disorder (specifically auto****l recessive disorders).

I still want to know why so many people want to demonize anabolic steroids. Seeing that there have been ZERO documented cases of end organ failure from them and that no one had died from using them, we still get media and others, who know nothing about them, making unsubstantiated comments. I've worked with bodybuilders and pro athletes for over 20 years and currently am an advisor with 2 Hormone Replacement clinic run by MDs. Far more people have died from aspirin and other over the counter products, yet people still want to make up all sorts of ill informed comments. It seems that you want to blame Flex. I find this to be a very common thread. My guess is that it's jealousy based.--

LOL dude, you're preaching to the choir about steroid use. I KNOW they're not anywhere near as bad as what the media makes them out to be, but I also face reality. If you think that you can take AAS without any negative side effects, you're in complete denial. Can you safely and effectively use steroids? Yep. Do MOST guys (ESPECIALLY pro bodybuilders) use reasonable doses with all the support supps, meds, check ups (BP, lipid profile, etc.), proper PCT? Probably not! This isn't jealousy. Flex has accomplished more as a bodybuilder than I could ever DREAM. But being a pro bodybuilder is NOT my calling.
BOTTOM LINE: AAS can cause negative side effects especially as the doseages increase. Add to that an assortment of other drugs, and you have a possible scenario for a problem. If you don't believe that, then I don't really give two ****s. I'm sure there are idiots out there too who think they can abuse alcohol and cigarettes and be fine for the rest of their life because "it doesn't happen to me." You have your experiences, and I have mine. You have your opinions, and I have mine. May you live a long and prosperous life.

you said there have been zero documented cases of anyone having organ failure or dying from the use of steroids. so why not take a ****load of them? o wait, so that WILL cause problems?
which is it? so what you mean to say is yes they can cause damage if used in unsafe doses. if thats the case then you need to admit they are dangerous.
