    Very narrow stance bb squat

With feet together? Like in this video, skip to 1:20
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SauQgvbztRE

What do you think of that? Effective?

Why do I want to do them:

    1. They burn vastus lateralis like crazy; for that quad side sweep.

    2. Can use less weight than regular bb squat -> my lower back is fked.

i'd do them on a smith machine for safety and to help isolate the quads but other than that, seem cool

Whenever I do narrow stance like that I end up hurting my knees... must be doing them wrong somehow. But I will say I feel it very much in my quads.

Some people will not be able to do that based on their hip structure.

To below parallel - of course not, I can't do this as well.

But it still fatigues quads really good, despite being a sort of half squat.

I would go with these instead, gradually bringing your feet closer together.:

Well, I feel for me split squats are more for overall quad mass with a bias to VMO. (TBH, every unilateral leg movement never isolates the side quad for me. But close stance squat feels godly in that regard)

would never squat like that, but I want to keep my hips until my 60s at least

one leg leg press with a closer stance works pretty well for the same effect with a light weight (on a horizontal machine obviously)

cannot grasp the bold, do you imply that close stance squats mess with hips?

p.s. I guess I'll never know whether it is effective until I try it myself for a long enough period of time.

Squatting with a stance not appropriate for your hip anatomy would. Number one reason why I wouldn't do this.

These are a good quad sweep movement as already mentioned.
Personally i think doing them on a machine is best to take out the balance factor and focus on the quads,
A hack squat and smith machine work great for these but you can still use a barbell you just need to be strict and aware while doing them.
Not a max weight exercise IMO but more of a feel movement.
I like non lock reps to get a good burn on those outer quads.
For me these would be a finisher or something done after a main heavier quad movement.

I linked to the safest, most stable free weight way to squat with the feet closer to each other (and with the option to gradually bring the feet together) and HeMB thinks it's a deadlift.

Now, he says he doesn't even squat.
No I did not say or think that. I just said that it is similar to the clean deadlift which is done with lower hip position than the deadlift. What a hell bro?

My response was my take on this:
Originally Posted by HeMB View Post

The setup for the clean dumbbell deadlift is with the ass lower than knees, but the actual lift starts with the hips between the shoulders and the knees and it isn't a squat. The lift I linked to is a squat.
