i raise you
"So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Pretty soon he walks over and asks what's wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry. He put down his magazine, picked up my niece, and lifted up his shirt, and breastfed her right there in the salon. Chill guy, really nice about it."

LM makes some beautiful aircraft, which is surprisingly somewhat of a factor when it comes to the next generation of aircraft being chosen.
Boeing's JSF entry was HUGELY unpopular with the Air Force as it was extremely ugly. Ultimately it lost out to LM's F-35 for a myriad of other reasons, but being hideous didn't do it any favors.

Sure it could. A pigeon could also take it down if it hit one mid-flight. Now WOULD a propeller based aircraft ever take one down? For a million reasons besides crashing midflight, no.
Here's a juxtaposition of the X-32 vs the X-35. Fighter pilots are vain and definitely do care about how their aircraft looks, so it's not surprising that the 35 was more popular (again, there were legitimate technical reasons as to why the 35 was chosen over the 32)
