Thanks Georgia for being the lab rats and taking these incredible risks for the benefit of all. It will be interesting to see the effect on the numbers in 2-3 weeks. Should be a reasonable indicator on how much impact “shutdowns” have. Although I bet many won’t be heading right out for a night on the town....

I think in reality it would be possible to open things up to some degree without too much impact if social distancing measures are still taken and people are still washing their hands like fiends. Certain high traffic areas with no/little benefit for the “risk” like movie theaters just don’t make a lot of sense to me. I think many industries are going to need to adapt or they will suffer as a result of the behavioral changes that occurred from this, they will continue long after the threat has passed. Then again, many people continue to support local restaurants via pickup/takeout which kind of surprises me, it’s like many think food prep workers are immune or something. I dearly miss our occasional meal out at a Mexican restaurant, but I’ll be making my own for the foreseeable future.

There's no reason movie theaters can't close off seats next to each other. Same with restaurants, every other table or something. Bowling alleys can go every other lane. Start slow and see how it goes. Now about those 5G towers.....

I live in a rural county with one main employer. Overnight, by executive order, well over 1/2 my county were out of work. Unlike the politicians that decide these things, most country people do not have months and months or even weeks of cash on hand. If they cannot work they cannot buy groceries. There are no social programs in place that can ever help the volume of people in need.

Hungry people do not give a shyt about the politics, or who is to blame for what, or who acted too soon or whatever it is that all the political nerds are ranting about. At least where I live, the people want to go back to work, not out of ideology, but out of a desire to purchase food for their families.

If this virus has not accomplished anything else positive, it is surely showing use what "privilege" looks like and how detrimental it is to working people.

If there's one thing I hope people learn from this, it's that you need to have an emergency fund. Sure mine is in a money market account but for my Grandma it was money in a mason jar (and I still keep a few bucks there as well.)

Take your $1,200 stimulus (if you work) and your unemployment plus $600 a week and tuck away a little instead of buying a new gun/freezer/TV.

Rooting for success in Georgia. This thing is not gonna just disappear regardless of how long we stay in quarantine. Sooner or later we are all going to have start living again. I know I am ready to take my chances. Not be reckless but start doing basic activities again (haircuts, gym, etc). I think way more of us have already been exposed than they think. I know that here in Southern NJ, quite a few people were sick in January, February and March with similar symptoms, went to Med Express and diagnosed with a viral infection (not the flu) that just needed to run its course. Coughs for most lasted close to a month.
