Sweet.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Found on FB marketplace, York 25kg bumpers missing the rubber. Is there any way to restore those?

I meant new rubber rings. I think he said they only weighed 50 lbs without the rubber rings too. Would've been cool to have, and the price wasn't bad, I just didn't see an 8 hour round trip in my near future. They're marked as sold now anyway. Anyone from here grab them?

I am hoping to get some help with three pairs of collars I have. Can anyone tell me the ballpark year the two York pairs were made? The gray spin locks look like the normal Chinese-made collars except there are no markings on them. Most of the other spin locks I have found have either the weight and/or 'China' stamped on them. Thanks!

Spped collars are from the 80's.

Hello All
User name: HGH - Home Gym Hoarder, 2020 - started this year, right before the pandemic.
First York purchase: York RH's, pre-USA, 10, 25 to 60 pairs, single loose head 50 and a York barbell (not sure if actual split sleeve)
How I got here: late last night was searching for refinishing options and landed on YBBC, Part II, page 94. Since then, have binge read to page 203. Will work on Part I and rest of Part II soon.
For the group, need advice (I have read some of the restoration efforts per my binge), but am sure there is more to be learned for future endeavors.
1. The single 50 RH has loose heads. I bought JB Weld, but am concerned how to use the popsicle stick to get it in there. Saw some other non-epoxy adhesives with a syringe that was metal compatible. Or should I bring it somewhere to get welded? It has nice patina, so I don't want to risk sanding and refinishing. Or just blob it out to offset my latest purchase below.
2. I came across a local set of rusted 50 RH's. I ended up paying the virus price and got to restoring. Already been wire wheeled with fine steel. Have gone through pre and post vinegar/water baths. Read about rust stop primer + either Painter's Touch or High Performance Enamel. What happens if I just used 3-in-One or WD40 on the bare metal? Do I really need the rust stop primer for indoor use? And what matches best, the semi-gloss black or the satin black color? I didn't see a definitive answer, but these are marked with "X" versus pre or USA so it doesn't match rest of the set. However, these will always be kept as my first project so I'm ok with however they turn out.
3. The barbell has a definite bend in it, but sleeves rotate nicely. I only use it for squat and deadlift, so i just marked where the bend is up and use it as is. Read about slamming weights on it (yikes), Harbor Freight press (or maybe that is just for DB handles) or bringing to machine shop. I would like it fixed eventually. What to do?
I will finish reading the rest of this site soon and I do know how to use the search function already.
Thanks in advance for all the knowledge. Stay safe!
Edit: just got through the entire Part II!Last edited by HGH2020; 04-11-2020 at 07:47 PM.

Welcome brother, you came to the right place. There are many knowledgeable people on here.
Check out dieselmike's post on his DD plate restoration here. In both his and my experience, the bare iron will go from the bright silver to a dull gray in a matter of weeks, and then develop a light patina over the course of months to years depending on the humidity and how often you re-oil it (which you should do often).
1.
2.
Some people clear coat them right after scraping to maintain that bright silver, and it looks like this:
I've only seen or heard of the X stamp on the 50 lbers. I have owned six 50 lb roundheads, and only one has the X. Even AttyGuy doesn't know what it signifies.
