Background: I'm 22, 6 feet tall, and (now) 170 lbs (was 185 a month ago)
I started a strict diet/exercise routine four or five weeks ago with the goal of losing fat. Since I've lost a good amount of fat in the last month, I've shifted my focus to filling out my almost non existent muscles. I don't necessarily want to be big, just more cut. I've been consistently eating 1200-1700 calories per day with a relatively high protein intake (0.8-1.0g per lb) At this moment I definitely have a bit more fat to lose, my BMI is 23.5. For the last two weeks I've been going to the gym about five days a week, where I run about two miles (burn 200-300 cals) and lift a different muscle group for 30-45 minutes. I know it's ineffective to lift on such a big calorie deficit so I've been keeping up the high protein intake. Generally I'll try to keep my net calories at a minimum of 1200 (usually 1300-1400) - So if I burn 200 cals running I'll make sure I eat at the very least 1400 cals. Is it unhealthy to do this much cardio on my diet? I like doing it but I'm worried it's not good for me or possibly detracting from my progress.

Uh, that’s still a deficit... are you planning to just wither away to nothing until you’re in a hospital bed?
If you cut to say, 165, your tdee is still going to be well above 2200 calories... if you want to bulk, you’re going to need much more. Hell, I’m 6 foot and not even 140lb and I’m trying to gain eating 3000+ And I’m 34 years old..."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

If your only goal is to lose fat, then why are you lifting weights and why are you on a bodybuilding forum?
Also, you flat out said you want to bulk after you’re done... so, which is it?
I’m telling you that if your plan is to cut, then bulk eating only 1900-2200 calories, that won’t work because your TDEE is more than that.Last edited by AdamWW; 01-20-2020 at 09:59 PM.

It isn’t going to work dude... you need to AT LEAST eat at maintenance in this situation and 1900-2200 isn’t going to even get you there... and since calorie/macros measuring isn’t 100% accurate, trying for a small surplus at least guarantees you’ll actually gain...
You’re going to just end up staying exactly the same"When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"
