While I can see your point about unknown conditions in the case.. I wouldn't be shocked if there really was not anything, people rule in favor of mothers more than they should simply because they feel its right.

My cousins alcoholic/drug addict mother won custody in my uncles divorce despite him being much more financially stable and a better parent. He had to go back to court after she f'ed up a few more times to fully get custody.

Not that his case had a jury or anything, but my point is just that people have some weird obsession with granting mothers custody rights like they are infallible.

What's mystifying is that they didn't just decline his request and actually flipped the script and took it away completely.

Did he win custody? My brother is going through something similar only his STBX is abusing one of their kids and the police was called out. They still left kids with lunatic mother 😡 so he's not re-opened custody case.

Was going to comment on the jury...something more has to be there for 11 out of 12 jurors to rule like this.

I have nothing against trans people, but I do believe nothing should be done to a minor before they're 18. When they're adults, if they choose to transition that's their choice, but to mess up a minor's hormones like that is f'ed up. Even if the kid says they "want" it - they're kids, who knows what the f they want.
